sorry- I miss a few basic mechanics in a prominent place.
like- when I enter my passphrase for the first time, I have to enter a wallet name.
when I return, that name is listed in wallets on that computer. Elsewhere, I read s.t. about a wallet file.
Is that wallet file encrypted with the same passphrase as my account passphrase?
Can I disregard the wallet file and only use my passphrase? When the computer is lost/stolen, can anyone access my XEM somehow on the hard drvie?
I would prefer to operate with ONE passphrase onlly, so having two is confusing- a bit like that annoying Bitcoin feature where the real privKey is carefully hidden, and only a passphrase to
an off-blockchain DB is supposed to be used....
And sry that I don't feel like browsing tutorials and forums for this info
Ah I see- when I 'export wallet' I get a small zip file...
wallet file stores your private keys encrypted. if you use a strong enough password for your wallet, like you would for nxt, no one will be able to hack it and take your coins. alternatively you can just import your private key each time you use the wallet but that wouldnt be as secure as just using a strong password for the wallet file imo. you cant use the private key with out creating a wallet file unless you use the API i guess. Thanks! I sort of figured, but was a bit unsure.. But I have another issue that might turn out as an embarrassement for me: When using the testNEM account, I genertaed a real NEM account and tooke great care to store the privkey and the pubkey. Now the privkey opens another account, but the original account (I have listed right above my privkey) does exist and have the XEM in it. Can this have gone wrong somehow? [I am not quite panicking yet, but would really like to find out] what I have as privkey is a 64digit hex string with the e-f in small letters- this doesnt look like a passphrase to me.. was there any step involved that yields a 64 digit hex string with small letters? when in the client, look to the top left where it shows your address.. does it still show "primary" below the address? if so click that address and a drop down should appear with a new address that does not say "primary". that should be the account you have nem in.

nope- it says 'primary' but when I click on that, the same appears below that: same account number with 'primary' in blue again ...

Or did you do the [Add Existing Account] from the drop-down cog located next to your Account Address and enter your private key in there? The latter should have opened up another account which you would then do what you quoted.

So I need to wait 1 day + 6 hour ??
if your on about delegated harvesting its 6 hours + plus the length of time to vest enough nem which if you just sent nem to your account will be 24 hours. if you got nem in genesis, you only need to wait 6 hours for delegated harvesting to start working. local harvesting will work instantly and you can keep local harvesting while delegated harvesting is initiating.

Maybe I misunderstood you. This is what I did for entering my private key. 1.) Create New Wallet 2.) After log-in to that wallet go to the drop-down arrow and click [Add an Existing Account] 3.) Enter the required info, "Account's Private Key", "Label", and the "Wallet's Password" then press [Add]. 4.) It should load a new account that has your XEM within it. If not then click your address and see if it shows 2 Addresses. Your "Primary" one and the Address you created using your private key. Just for reference my private key contained a bunch of numbers 0-9, and letters a-f If you did the above and its not showing try see if you switched up private and public key maybe?

Just to clarify this delegated harvesting magic. I set up an empty wallet on a remote server or another computer on my network. Start local harvesting on this wallet and then place the ip of this server, local computer into the settings on the nem splash screen. I then enter my local wallet and select delegated harvesting. Do I need to have this wallet open 24/7 also?

Can't make this shit up: can 1 person be 13% importance? how exactly is that number calculated? Im showing 2.23% in mine ... Ahem. I have not contacted you, nor have I more than one stake from the forum claiming. Please clear this up! You're absolutely right and I apologize. I confused you with someone else . No problem. The only reason I wanted that cleared up was because someone sent me a PM asking about it. Must be some error in. T had only 1 stake!

I am really confused now
Oops!
ERROR 124 The provided password for the address book is not correct.
So I MUST enter a label and a wallet password? But what address book is it about then?
I started nixRunNIS first from a terminal, then nixRunNcc from a terminal, whence I went to a browser on localhost:8989
I see a green bar on top with 'NIS IS SYNCHED at block 3774) so that looks good...
can anyone tell me of the 64digit hex format as privkey is correct?

A dilema, sell few shitcoins which i forgot to dump from craptsy because i loved them and still feel some sentiment to them (VTC, PND...) or buy (in)directly for fiat to buy few nems? Already i have bought one stake for 1 older quadrucopter + providing internet for next 5 years Now i wanna have at least 5M to be a big NEMstard... and im missing 500k

Your priv key format sounds right. I'd try again. Create a new wallet with new name and new passphrase and try closing and re-openening it. If successful then add your Nemesis account with the 'add existing account' function. That will add a second address to your wallet containing your 2.25mil coins.
