I was browsing the NEM rich list and was surprised to see so many stakeholder accounts that are now empty or displaying balances of <100 XEM. One account once had 15 stakes bought from the NXT AE but now only has 25 XEM. Had they not sold, that would be worth over $1 million at current prices. I know it's good for distribution but still, ouch.

On the other hand, there are also accounts which started off with a small amount of XEM and accumulated more over time. Several supernodes started off with only a small fraction of a single stake.

For this reason for me XEM interesting quality of investments .
XEM it's cents . XEM it's very cheap .

Because NEM have 100 billion supply. I am not saying NEM can't reach 100 billion US dollars cap market but come on. Time will tell.

1-if you did a basic research of 5 min you wont say this number 100 billions but anyway
2- mathematically the THE NUMBER OF COIN supply  DOESN'T MATTER AT ALL . yes zero null nada
it is even better to have a big supply to avoid the problem of big divisibility like the btc is suffering from.

small coin supply will be like

send 0.0000005 xem to my mom for anniversary

what is the better for you to send 500 xem or 0.000000005 xem

bitcoin supply is too small an issue a problem and an annoying headache.
and i think it is stupid to replicate the errors of bitcoin
we must bring something better than btc otherwise, why are we here in the first place.

What is safest, not very sophisticated way for holding your XEM? I checked a few popular hardware wallets (Trezor, Ledger Nano S) and these don't support XEM

Print your private key and store it somewhere safe. You can insert it into any wallet you want when the time comes to move or spend.

I am using android wallet and it is working fine with me. If you are not spending your xem, it is better to install android wallet on an old phone and send your xem there. Once done, remove the battery and store your phone somewhere safe. A cheap alternative while hardware wallet is not yet out.

Printing private key on my NANO wallet means this will be in an image format like png?  Its still not safe because if my computer will be infected by a virus, it might not be accessible anymore. I'd like to think  of hiding it on my attached file in my email but if I forgot my email access, it will also be a huge loss.

Perhaps print private key on to paper using your printer.  Then store in a locked safe.  Unsophisticated, but reduces risk from technical failures.
