I'm unable to connect for some reason. I signed up with my username opentoe. This is what is in my pool information:
stratum.kano.is:3333 -u opentoe worker: opentoe_kitchen password: x
My rig never connects. I know it's gotta be something stupid, right?
Yup, stupid mistake.

Does the payout go right into the user's bitcoin address? Is it automatic? Does it accumulate where you can then make a manual payout?
Each block the pool finds, you are allocated a reward and a payment to your payout address on the Rewards and Payments pages This is done at either when the block reaches +2 or 10 minutes after the block (whichever is longest) It uses the payment address that was set at the time the block was found. Once the block reaches +101, I then manually send a payment transaction to all rewards > 10,000 satoshi for that block. The pool accumulates all rewards on the Rewards page. You can't see the outstanding balance anywhere yet, but you can calculate it by adding up the Rewards and subtracting your total wallet payments you've received from the pool. 'Balance' is still on the todo list.

And you process all payouts manually one by one?

I send the block miner transaction directly to the miners - one big transaction per block - after +101. The pool software generates the transaction details. I run a server check, database check, software check, results checks, etc. etc. each payout (and at other random times) The wallet is not at the pool.

Woo block! I started mining to the pool using just a bitcoin address, but have since registered an account on the web site. If I link that same btc address to my account and then mine using my account name, will my shares carry over to the account, or will I lose my shares mined?
I think my question got skipped over, could someone kindly answer? I did receive a payment yesterday, so not sure if this was from the mining I was doing with just the address, or from when I switched over to my account user name. Since both are pointed at the same BTC address I cannot tell.

Is cgminer authenticating securely when it does ./cgminer -o stratum+tcp://stratum.kano.is:3333 -u Kano.worker -p x ? I'm wondering if someone could sniff the password on the wire, then login to the web interface and change the payout address? I don't have enough hashing power for it to matter much if someone were to do that to me, just curious, and I try to use ssl if available whenever I'm sending passwords.

Never use the same password for your worker on cgminer as the website password. ckpool doesn't even use the worker password so dont even bother sending one.

Your (old address) shares will not show up in your (new) user account, they are under the address account (which you can't login to) However, the total payout will still be the same as if you hadn't changed anything. Each share you submit gets paid the same way no matter how many accounts you have and no matter how many addresses you have. Edit: well to clarify that some more: a share submitted at time X will get paid a fixed amount depending on the shift it is in. It doesn't matter who submitted it. ... and all shares in a shift get paid the same ratio based on their difficulty.

How do you know you hit the block? If you mean 'who': When you login it shows the workername that found the block. If you mean 'block': Well - the blocks page on the web site
