There's indeed a bug on that wallet but AFAICR, it doesn't extend to legacy addresses ^{[only the segwit addresses are affected]}.

I just tested that with signing a message from a legacy address and got the same error.

It's really funny how Coinomi works.
If you sign a message from Coinomi and then verify the same message without closing "Sign/verify message" window, it's verified successfully. It's verified even with a wrong signature.
If you sign a message from Coinomi, close the "Sign/verify message" window and then open it again and verify the message, it can't be verified.

That's strange... I no longer have my spare tablet to personally test it, but @Zlantann had a "different experience" last month with a legacy address and "here's his/her signed message from a legacy address" in Coinomi.

I just tried that. I was able to verify the message using other tools like electrum successfully.
So, a message signed by coinomi from a legacy address can be verified by other tools, but it can't be verified by itself.

Edit:
I tried this with a segwit address too and I was again successful in verifying the message using electrum.
It's weird. Because the message signed by palle11 yesterday isn't verifiable even using electrum.

I think something has to be corrected here or a direction should be followed. In my own case I had to go through the legacy before I got through and I have been trying that through more than 48 hours stressing my out trying to understand what was the issue looking through space or gap as some big guys in the forum was suggesting but I was able to get through going from legacy. I think one member too went through the stress , zlantann Right?

Maybe we should just say those signing message from coinoimi should do that using legacy

There was no problem from TheBeardedBaby's side.
palle11 signed a new message from a legacy address which was the one verified by him/her and CoinEraser.
TheBeardedBaby was trying to sign the message signed from the segwit address which can't be verified at all.

Maybe we should just say those signing message from coinoimi should do that using legecy

The best thing anyone can do is to not use coinomi.

I lost this address a couple of weeks ago after I uninstalled the wallet and not being able to recover it since the paper I wrote the seed phrase of it was in a bunch of messy old papers and I disposed of.. This is my new address and signing

Can you sign a message from any of addresses you have used before?
Staking a new address without proving your ownership over the address you have staked before defeats the purpose of staking a bitcoin address.

You can use ninjastic.space to see the addresses you have used before.

Note that for signing a message from a bitcoin address, you need to have full control over the address. This means that you must own the private key of the address.
The deposit address an exchange gives you isn't owned by you. That's owned by the exchange and you can't sign a message from that.

I know, and I agree with you The addy exchanges give to me isn't owned by me, but the account in those exchanges are owned by me...anyways I don't have any private key to any of the non custodial wallet addresses which I have used for bounties since I disposed them off while taking a break and I staked only one address only to later find I have disposed the seed phrase of it.

You can move some amount of coins which is decided by those who need the proof, if you don't have control over the private keys.
It's been done before, and I think the recovery team will accept it.
