Do you seriously think a sane person would try to actually calculate that?

I'd say the answer lies in the order of millions or more, since you have all the possible front matches, multiplied by the number of all possible combination pairs of the other criteria (e.g. 2 base58 digits out of whatever many remain after the front digits). Then you scale down to some interval size and apply the approximations of a uniform distribution.

Also, this has zero relevance since I can assure you that whatever two numbers you ever provide, in whatever base you choose them to be, there is always some other common representation that will make them look like they're siamese sisters. That's pretty much the case with all the "prefixes" of H160.

Hello everyone,

I would like to introduce CUDAPool, a distributed GPU-based brute-force pool designed to tackle the Satoshi puzzle (secp256k1 key search). This project started as a small personal R&D, but it has already grown into a small community effort with impressive performance results.

What does it do?
The pool distributes work ranges (2^40 blocks) among clients.
Clients use optimized CUDA kernels to brute-force secp256k1 private keys (secp256k1 lib works with awesome research JLP and FixedPaul).
Results are securely reported back to the pool (ranges, speed, possible matches).

Performance
Optimized client achieves 8–9 Gkeys/s on a single RTX 5090 (due to power limit and power consumption).
Thanks to the temporary help of a very respected community member, the pool recently peaked at 4 Tkeys/s aggregate speed.
Even in regular mode, speeds above 50–100 Gkeys/s are common with active participants.

Security
The pool is protected against spoofing and fake submissions:
All requests are HMAC-signed with a secret.
TLS with SPKI pinning is used to prevent MITM.
Server tracks assignments and verifies all returned ranges.
Worker IDs and slots are unique (per GPU, per PID).

Since the address match requires hashing a public key, and the client knows what hash he wants to find, this means direct access to the public key that yielded the match.

He then simply breaks the private key out of the public key, sending nothing at all to your pool. What's your server protection against this?

Yesss, a small change to the code around "pr.found" and everything falls apart. Instead, you should compute an intermediate hash and give that to the clients, so that only the server, by combining the partial hash with the secret hash, can reconstruct the correct private key.

Also, you need to improve overall security: a client can always capture the packet and return an "ok" without doing any work, thereby inflating their blocks exponentially, for free and at a controlled speed rate.

That's great for making sure no one can sniff the traffic, but it doesn't help at all with anything, since the client is in full control of the code, hence of whatever is being transferred in and out. Unless you provide a way to find the solution without ever exposing the public key on the client side, all of the security layers are pretty much protecting a system that was already vulnerable since the very first second of being public. If you ever find a "fix" (I doubt one exists), you would have to restart the entire pool from scratch, since nothing your server got so far can actually be trusted, and it's trivial for anyone that joins to simply not send real or complete results back to your server, hence I don't see a reason for anyone to actually join, given these priblems.

Not sure if you are not reading the messages or trying to pretend. Other folks clearly indicated that you don't provide any protection from bad clients who may keep the key to themselves or manipulate the data using other means.
You keep saying you do TLS, but that does not protect from such attacks. It's not a "problem", it's a problem. One can't trust your pool because you can't guarantee submissions.
