From their own press release

The hashing power of GHash.IO consists of:
• ~45% BitFury ASIC based miners
• ~55% independent miners

Their hashrate at the moment is 4.8-4.9
In this calculation I am using 4.8 PH
45% of 4.8=2.16 PH controlled by CEX alone.
When they started their mine was not that big.

http://www.businessweek.com/articles/2014-01-09/bitcoin-mining-chips-gear-computing-groups-competition-heats-up#p3
Originally this was planned to be a 100 TH mine, it turns out to be a 500 TH mine with only Bitfury gear.

from the 55% independent miners at CEX there must be also a large numbers of Bitfury gear sold by Megabigpower and Bitfurystrikesback.

I guessing most of the hashrate add to the network lately is Bitfury gear.
Megabigpower doesn't have items in stock untill a few days ago and from that time the hashrate explode.
I think Bitfury has a succesfull new batch at this moment.

Bitmain come into play.
BTmine come into play
If you trace their BTC address, you see they sell a lot, but not enough to be responsible for that much of hashrate. (Don't know how many wire transfers)
I speculate that it is Bitfury that add the most hashrate to the network lately.
I still have to check BTCGarden and Asicminer.
BFL is out of question.

You notice the marketbot at CEX pumping up the prize and forcing people new to BTC buy high and sell low?
Their business plan is perfect.

Just in case anyone is interested in calculating their actual power consumption, you should know that the amount listed by bertmod or the new 0.99.2 firmware does not include all factors like fans or PSU inefficiencies. As you can see, my Jupiter shows 1140w on the Advanced page, but my kill-a-watt meter shows 1300w at the wall. I would recommend multiplying the amount you see on the Advanced tab or from bertmod by 1.15 for a realistic estimate.

what kind of Jupiter are you running?

my Jupiters are drawing from 570W to 590W at the wall all with 0.95 firmware.
BTW. 240v power supplies V1000 cooler Master gold

Sorry, I forgot to mention I'm running 6 modules overclocked at 1TH/s. I found the same 1.15 power multiplier was necessary when running 4 modules at stock speed though.

I just took a 1000w evga (1000 G2) to the CES with me based in Cyper's recommendations for the brand. I couldn't source the 1300W one in time as Cyper has probably bought the entire UK's supply of them before Christmas.

The lads gave me 2xV850s to use, but I got totally fed up with dealing with unpacking 2 power supplies and anything that takes me near the baggage limit. I realise not a concern for you, buuuut each v850 is over a kilo, and the leads aren't light either.

Plus the red EVGA leads which you have 6x 6+2, with 6 separate 8 pin ports on the PSU (4x a single Pcie and I think two were doubles) look neater and sexier than the mess of leads the coolermaster has when on camera. On top of which and this is a biggy, they are longer and better shielded. That said the Molex which is much longer than the coolermaster offering which further bunches up the pcie leads is still shorter than the pcie leads and that is then the determining factor in the distance in separation if the device and the PSU.

In any case they are very reasonably priced 80 plus gold rated and carrying one PSU over two is muuuch more fun. I'm still getting forearms like Popeye lugging Jupiter around, however the final bonus is the set up and clear up time is so much quicker.

Most of the above probably doesn't concern most of you, just thanking Cyper for the recommendation and can confirm I really like the PSU. I can imagine the 1300w would be ideal for any 6 board Nov Jup mods (that are totally unofficial, right? Wink). Really impressed with the EVGA brand for such a compact high rated unit that is pretty much half the price of the next worthwhile offering, and has 6x in dependant pci-es, but it does look like the 1300w version is sold out everywhere for the foreseeable future (in the UK at least). The 1000w one I have was like only £20 less, but I had to order and have delivered quick this side of Christmas.

I did see a 1600w PSU which I believe took 10 PCI-Es and was only £200 somewhere. No idea but prob should look into that as it would be ideal for a GPU farm...

I wonder how much recent overclocking, as above has effected the hashrate as well? I mean if enough are savvy enough to push out another 10-15% it has to make some kind of dent...

Absolutely! I've wondered this myself since most of the hashing power out there is KnC hardware.

On another note, it seems like those 2nd gen Avalon clones are sprouting up like wildfire! I've got 13 of 'em arriving sometime between 1/20 and 1/22. I think that KnC's competition doesn't look the way they expected (HashFast & Cointerra), but rather dozens of Chinese 'shops' cranking these things out like mad. Hurry up and ship more Jupiters please!

I was going to mention Avalon, a little birdy brought this to my attention to day. They have a load of 200gh/s 55nm hitting the market right now, but that cannot be solely responsible. Also does that mean the hardware is all being pre-mined (again), or delivered?

Yes that was the one I was going to try and get as the extra 300w for £10-20 made since, but the lack of availability didn't. I needed the space in my suitcase more than the wait for stock. That is indeed the PSU Cyper has raved on about and the the Nov box seems super happy with it, plus again makes for a sexier photo than a mass of black wiring. I like.

Seen it a lot cheaper though. Out of stock but somewhere I swear I saw it for around £150?

Haha, yeah - I'll let you know how much dust is in my units when (if) I receive them. I think everyone's too eager to point at one specific cause for the current increase, but I think it's a combination of Avalon clones, KnC overclocking, and a dark horse or two.

Perhaps.   On the other hand I found reading all the trials and tribulations of various firmware versions or miners, when I got my Merc w/1 upgrade module running at 285 I said fine and let it run.  I'd log in and find the uptime but why disturb it?

on another note...
Good thing no miners here ATM...
My new 200 amp service line took a direct lightning strike last night  Angry
It blew every breaker in the house, both live phases
It exploded a 20 amp power strip, blew my desktop, microwave, and left a
3 inch long exploded hole in the new conduit. It struck on the portion
of the line we had not been able to bury yet. The mains are literally in pieces.
After calling the power company, they come and find that my transformer is also blown.
They patched me into a local transformer down the street a bit, but only one phase
is still working with a huge exposed/blackened hole in the conduit for now until I
can fix this mess. oh boy.

you guys dont have lightning rods in hawaii? weird.

Yikes! I'm in the process of getting a bunch of quotes to upgrade my house from 150a to 200a and I'm adding 6 x 30a 240v circuits for my Avalon clones, Neptunes, and hopefully a couple more Jupiters. One of the electricians recommended a 'whole house' surge protector. After reading this, I might consider it!

Cheers bro. I just needed the one PSU for the trip as opposed to faffing with twice the weight and loss in bag space with 2xv850s.

Check this though;

I saw that on amazon for £200 from Germany again min 5 day lead time.

I am now using 3 to power each pair of Jupiters.

Now I am slowly change them to this one.

A bit more expensive than the EVGA

Cheers bro. I just needed the one PSU for the trip as opposed to faffing with twice the weight and loss in bag space with 2xv850s.

Check this though;

I saw that on amazon for £200 from Germany again min 5 day lead time.

saw the video man, fwiw i thought you were great and audio was fine, i dont know what people are complaining about...

I agree. I liked 'Orama's responses and appreciate how stressful that situation must have been. The only part I would have changed was the $70k for Jupiter owners bit, but he's already addressed that. I really liked the way he described mining as processing, securing, and verifying transactions. I used that same phrasing a few hours after watching the interview when explaining to someone else.

@BitcoinOrama:
If KnC does not sell more Jupiters in January, you should sell your rig (presented at Engadget) by auction here  Grin Grin Grin

We do have rods, and stringent codes....   There's also several "Better" places it could have struck nearby... like the all-steel tall greenhouse just 6 or 7 meters away. Just a freak thing... you can "coax" lightning with good preparation, but there are no guarantees. This is a perfect example. My next major upgrade, after patching or replacing all the damage, is to add a groundrod at the subpanel...they aren't required here, but if I had it, the damage to my appliances might not have been so bad. I hope it's just the PSU on my desktop thats blown, i haven't gotten around to it yet
