Thanks for the update,

Will Jupiters or Upgrade modules be available soon?

I believe it's more likely to be upgrade module, there appears to be a bottleneck on acquiring controller boards.

Yes thanks for the update.  Looking forward to progress and news that the 20nm design has taped out.

I'll check, but I imagine same rules apply. Don't quite understand why anyone ships with a PSU due to the customs complications this presents in certain countries, especially when they are easily obtainable elsewhere (with enough warning).

It's likely to be something like 2x something chunky wattage wise PSUs. IDK off the top of my head those EVGA 1300W Supernovas should cover all bases with headway in case any additional is required.

Final numbers we can never have at this stage in the game, but headway is good of course. Obv w.r.t. optimisation we want to bring the hashrate up, and the power consumption down , and we are trying our best to achieve that for all of you and do so as expedited as we can safely whilst cautiously respecting this level of tech.

...but please tell me you will at least have room in the case for standard ATX power supplies.  The tangle of wires on the outside of the machine is really quite ridiculous.  It was understandable on the Jupiters due to the time constraints but there is really no excuse for it on the Neptunes.

Again that's after we're happy and Alchip are happy with the final design before submission. 20nm is not 28nm, there's more risk and we fully intend to mitigate such where possible. We're moving as fast as we can, we're where I said we were aiming to be before Christmas, but we're respecting this tech. It's very much untrodden ground and as before we want this to work first time.

Perhaps, but the reduced footprint brought shipping costs down significantly. I'll pass the concern on though.

so, would that mean that November Jupiter customers with be SOL getting more KNC hashing power prior to Neptune release?

This is a MUST if we want to use datacenters. Also, server power supplies would fit much easier and are capable of higher wattages. Also, server power supplies aren't necessarily more expensive than ATX PSUs when calculating watts/$.

Why? Your unit has a controller board, it's the rectangular thing with a beaglebone in front of your hashing modules.

Are you suggesting that Nov Jupiter owners mod their miners to accommodate more modules? I know, you're not - but that's what people are reading when you say that. Perhaps you were referring to Saturns?

Sorry yes, I stand corrected. I know and you know FWIW warranty covers unmodded units, although some have been able to mod their units.

I'm in favor of this as well.  Something similar to the CoinTerra units.

right, but it lacks the headers for connecting additional modules that the October units do have.

Man what a downer. I have about 20btc stashed away to order more jupiters, held off on ordering 2 more neptunes. Seems like the gamble to wait for jups didnt pay off. Oohh well

+1

We were waiting for more Jupiters...

I'll wait till the end of january and spend the whole bag of btc on Ants....

If only upgrade modules will be sold I think Network protection screwed up...

I really hope they ship with some extra hash power, this is looking like a long difficult ROI.

I hope they don't go for to much perfection with the Neptunes...  This still is an arms race and difficulty rising exponentially is still a big part of mining.  no..?

bottleneck with controller boards Huh that's the simplest component of the whole miner.  Could you please explain Orama..?  I'm not sure I'm believing this unless you/KNC can explain with more detail.  KNC have pulled miracles in the past with bigger volumes and now there's a bottleneck.  I'm sure another PCB manufacturers that can make it happen if existing manufacturer is busy.

Also. didn't KNC tell us to keep BTC handy for these Jupiters.  What's changed..?  Fear of Neptune refunds..?  by the way they sold out this shouldn't be the case.

Come on, we're all men here.. spill the beans even if some will get upset I'm sure we'll get over it.

If you are going to pass that please pass on also the opposite concern. I am baffled to see people with the most ridiculous aesthetic concerns here, dangerous concerns detrimental to performance. I'm quite positive the vast majority of KNC customers, usuals and new, are very happy with external PSU's that don't increase design time,  heat at the case nor the risk of damage while in transit.

Thank you for all the updates and also looking forward for an official tape out announcement.
