I think it's becoming a joke the extent to which coinmarketcap.com's crazy "circulating supply" default reporting policy is now being gamed to death by opportunistic token creators.

This is decentralised crypto, not some regulated stock issuance governed by contractural processes. If the coins are generated on the blockchain they are all in circulation. The blockchain does not make any liquidity distinction between one wallet and another - they are homogeneous, not heterogeneous which is the whole point of a blockchain anyway.

Hey, the coins in my wallet are "not circulating" ! Do I get to exclude them from the reported supply to increase the per-coin price ? Why should some wallet holders be allowed to do this and not others ?

Worst of all, the wallet holders who are allowed to have their wallet contents excluded from the CMC default marketcap are usually the people who created the tokens in the first place.

Can you get any bigger a conflict of interest than that ?

This market's building the dotcom bubble from hell and the ludicrous CMC "circulating supply" policy is one of the main engines fuelling it.

Look at it another way.

If the last traded price of a token rises, it manifests as an unrealised gain in all holders wallets. Not just an arbitrary number of them (as the CMC default marketcap reporting policy would allude to).

Making an informal declaration that hey, I won't be selling these coins til at least Jan 2029 doesn't change that fact - again, since these are decentralised assets and the blockchain doesn't arbitrate between one wallet and another in terms of liquidity. Nor is the holder even nominated on the blockchain.

So let's say I create a random token. Put out a random whitepaper saying that my token will sing, dance and make dinner, then "release" 1% of to the market (from my wallet, not from the smart contract because the coins are already released from the smart contract and are "circulating" in my wallet) and that 1% trades at $1.

A correct accounting appraisal on my wallet holdings is now (0.99S x $1), where S is the total coin supply. So why doesn't that unrealised gain show up in the aggregate accounts as well ? Just cos I said it shouldn't ?

Please change this policy to always show the marketcap as total supply (on the blockchain) x latest coin price. This will allow traders to make more informed valuations and prevent opportunistic rogue launches from massively overpricing their offering at a very early stage when its speculative value = 100% and its industrial value = 0%.

Furthermore it penalises conscientious projects who want to maximise the distributed ownership of their project from an early stage and publish the full supply as contributing to marketcap.

i like that coinmarketcap disabled korean exchangers from average prices. but, come on, couldnot you do some preliminary announcement? with all due respect, it looks a bit fishy for such a respected site.

I heard they will list any exchange as long as you have a little volume

For example

Hitbtc yobit are known scams and they stay on there. It gives the impression that the exchange is ok and new people go and get robbed.

Coinshouse.eu just got added and if you check the coinhouse.eu thread here you see many people getting robbed

https://asktom.cf/index.php?topic=2612191.180

It should come with a rating systems.

What happened with the Photon coin? Cryptopia closed their LTC/PHO and DOGE/PHO trading because their servers couldn't handle the loads of these markets. We proposed to add the C-Patex (https://c-patex.com/markets/phobtc) market but instead we see Photon (PHO) disappear completely from Coinmarketcap.

We are very busy to promote Photon. Coinmarketcap is of much influence; everybody checks your site.
Could you please re-consider the removal of Photon? You could add the the C-Patex exchange or at least let the Cryptopia market stay (since they are very busy to get the LTC and DOGE markets back online)?

Coinmarketcap is listing exchanges and trades over there and not being responsible for what the exchanges are trading and how they behave. If the exchange is shut down by local law theywont be listed any more I guess.

Please use the request form to request updates to the site.

Hi,

Greetings from Eyescoin team. We have been trying to get our coin listed on coinmarketcap.com since December 2017. This is crucial for our community as they need price reference for trading and exchanges from reputable site like coinmarketcap.com. We already filled out the request form and still didn't get reply. Could you please guide us if there is any wrong in our application? Hope to hear from you soon.

so Bitconnect ,the blatant SCAM ponzi that collapsed a few days ago along with the money of many new people in crypto, is still being advertised on Coinmarketcap. This not doing CMC any good taking advertising money off scammers such as BCC. I hope they remove any such adds and in future take an ethical position when accepting add's.

I watched the screenshot. I think this spot at coinmarketcap is reserved for google or other third party ads, therefore it's not coinmarketcap's fault this ad appears on their site. They just have the right target group.
Might also be a direct ad though..

yes, I really agree with that friend, the image of coinmarketcap should remain on guard
the quality, if coinmarketcap still put the BCC ad is a very bad thing

Is there a 52-Week price high-low (and/or for 7-day and 30-day as well)function on the site?  If not, would you consider add it to the site?

These info are really useful.  Thanks.

this page is showing wrong data: https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/ibtc/ , its showing the data for the old ibtc before the token swap, the old token is:  https://etherdelta.com/#IBTC-ETH  and the new correct one still being developed is: https://etherdelta.com/#0x0784dbabb6c6834bddfb7cfee116ba049e5dafab-ETH  , you can check this is correct by going to the tokens officail website  http://ibtctoken.com/ and click on the etherdelta logo in the exchange section near the bottom, or see posts on the official ibtc twitter: https://twitter.com/ibtctoken
please chnage the price data and graph as soon as possible to make sure investors dont accidentally loose money buying the wrong token.

I like to know if CMC consider any other factor before listing some token even though  they are listed on the same etherdelta as others. Boscoin is on coinmarketcap and it is only traded on Hitbtc but the token traded is only IOU. I have thought the list will be reverse after a while however it is stayed more than 2 month without any improvement with trading on the exchange and no listing on new exchange.
