I just stumbled across a few 888's and thought I'd see what's going on over here. It's looking good. Lot's a work going on under the radar. I'm glad I held onto those 888's

Hey guys, I have a friend who is pretty talented and competes nationwide. I have talked to him before about sponsorships and he has a trip coming up soon. He is going to Germany to compete against top Jiu Jitsu Purple Belts in Europe. To my knowledge he is the only American going so it's pretty exciting. He is trying to raise money for the travel costs and event fees. He already has a gofundme and is hosting a donation based BJJ Seminar on Triangle Chokes. If there is interest from the 888 community to sponsor him for this trip and maybe future competitions I will see how much we can raise and then see how he can promote 888. I would like to give him something that has the logos and the web addresses on there. Maybe even do some print media like small flyers or cards with some basic info and web addresses on there. Whether it's a tshirt or a patch maybe to sew into his gi. He is currently competing in jiu jitsu but will also compete in judo and will have his first MMA fights coming up soon. Let me know if there is interest and ideas for how he could promote us while in Germany! We will discuss what 888 address to use and what the terms are if you guys want to help this guy out and also promote us oversees and maybe in the states in the future. Also, I know with the potential price rise some of you may not want to depart with our precious Octo before it's hit it's higher price down the road. Understandable and I will post a bitcoin address as well. If we do this I will get a vid of him receiving the funds and saying his thanks and will throw it on youtube to post here and on the reddit threads. As a bonus, I will throw up a poll and you guys can vote how you would like to see Clay choke me out!I think the options would be rear naked choke, triangle choke, cross choke and head and arm triangle. no guillotines

Yeah, we can get the logo on multiple items eventually. But the idea is to raise some money, use that money to pay for the patch to go on his gi uniform and also put logos on his fight shorts. Another idea is a tee shirt with all of his sponsors on it including the octo logo and web addresses.
Either way, the money will pay for the logo to wear then the rest goes to him.
And it may take multiple times. Maybe this time just pay for a patch to go on the gi uniform. In his next event pay to get the patch put on his fight shorts which will be used in both no gi jiu jitsu and MMA fights. The next time get the octo logo put onto a rash guard.
The other idea is to print up a bunch of small flyers with the web addresses, logo and brief description and he can pass them out or place them on all the seats at the event. I'm not sure how large the event in Germany will be but I know some of the US events he has been in this year attract a few hundred to a few thousand people per event.
It's just a thought on a good way to get the octo name out there. If we as a community sponsor him he may get a chance to talk about the crowd funding app when it releases and how people can use these tools to raise money for athletes or events in the future.
I'm going to post a Bitcoin and Octocoin address later tonight and start the process.
This trip is going to cost him around $3000. He has other sponsors and fundraising going on. It's not like he is totally counting on us so even if all we raised was $150 and $50 paid for the patches he'd still have $100 towards the cost of the trip.
Most of his US competitions will not cost nearly as much to fund and every little bit helps.
Most of the expense is hotel, gas, food, competition fees and sometimes replacing gear/uniforms.
Another idea in the future is to get him a custom gi made. You can actually have the companies make your gi uniform with custom colors and logos either embroidered or patched in. Could you imagine a green/black/gray gi with a giant octopus sewn into it? I mean he would have a lot of eyeballs seeing the logo and name and I'm sure a ton of people asking who is his sponsor with the octopuss.
More to come on this tonight!
Thanks for any interest.

How about an OctoCoin tattoo on his forehead? Seriously... A custom gi and/or robe for MMA walkouts could draw a lot of attention to OctoCoin... especially if he gets picked up by one of the bigger promoters and appears on television. Are there any videos of him fighting on YouTube? If not, then he needs to get someone (friend, family, significant other) to video some of his fights. That would help promote him as a fighter and also show off the OctoCoin sponsorship.

I know he has youtube vids so I'll get the links and post them here tonight.

i'd like to see his fighting record, if we're to be thinking of backing him. it's cool that he's a personal contact of one of out community members, but as a business endeavour, i'd wanna treat it as an investment. and like any investment, i do my homework i think the flyers on the seats is a great idea (not sure if the competition would allow it), but at the moment it's pre-mature, we have nothing to promote other than buzz, and word of mouth. i think the full-on custom Gi with a giant octocoin octopus wrapping around the side of him would be kickass (see what i did there?). and i would totally be up for that, if we knew we were going to get some exposure out of it. if it's closed competitions, then i think that patches are the way to go, if he gets more visibility, then full on gi would be appropriate. let's see them vids!

His record for jits is pretty good and most of his wins are by submission and not by points where he's lay n pray. I'll get the vid links and what his record is. As for MMA, i'm not sure what his intentions are but I know he was going to have his first fight. Yeah, for now, the sponsorship would strictly be getting the name, logo and web addresses out. But, in the future, depending on how the crowd funding app works, there is potential crossover for using an Octo service pertaining to a need in their field: funding and sponsoring fighters/competitors at events. I suppose there is potential for cross over on other apps. Really at events like this where vendors are mobile, crypto currency is perfect. Being able to use a lightweight phone or tablet to handle all of your sales at an event is way better than doing cash only or setting up your POS system at a booth.

DONATION ADDYS GOAL: $150 where $50 is reserved for paying for a patch/es for Gi uniform or MMA short and the $100 or anything over goes to Clay for travel expense to Germany for an all purple belt tournament. If we reach the goal of $150 I will shoot a video at our gym where Clay can give his thanks for the Octo community support and you can see Clay choke me out! You even get to vote! Which choke would you like to see Clay take me to night night city with? Reply to this thread with the following options: Triangle choke, Cross choke (in a gi) or Rear Naked choke. Please only vote if you donate I'm not going to require that you post how much you donated with your vote so we are going on the honor system here You can also include any suggestions for this or any future sponsorships. Of course, you can use the blockchain to track the addresses. All Octo will be traded for BTC. All BTC will be sent to Coinbase to cash out. Screenshots will be provided to prove transparency. The thank you/chokeout video will show Clay receiving the full amount. BTC: 1A6vJ8emhAaHiC2axFZU91PXmh7ZYc5FkA 888: coming soon. i was having an issue with creating a clean address in the Octo wallet. i go to show addresses and create new. both "new" addresses were showing balances and transfer dates from may in amounts i was mining. after thinking about it at work this morning i know there is a check box that says "use prior addresses or old addresses" or something. i will figure out tonight and have a clean address. Clay Mayfield: FB https://www.facebook.com/clay.mayfield.71?fref=ts&ref=br_tfOK, here are a few jits vids. I am not sure what his overall record is. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kf7PwZNqgFkhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lWsvVh6w-L4https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8aRKgCRQKdMhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QDdFBAQq4c8edited for boldness lol

Right... and looking through your post history all you do is complain. You complained about how long the hardfork was taking to implement and the lack of a new wallet... and then we got a seamless hardfork (which is surprisingly rare) that took care of the bonus block exploit, improved the difficulty adjustment formula, and came packaged within a great client built on the Bitcoin Core 0.9.2 source (there are still only 3-4 coins I'm aware of on the 0.9+ source). In addition to a great client/source, OctoCoin has a strong and steady network, a mature community, a development team consisting of real developers (two of whom I've personally met), 4 months of well-written updates, a low-key teaser of their "OctoHub" platform (which, let's be honest, the SSL certificates alone probably cost them more than most coin developers spend). How many developers are even still around after 4 months these days? If you think Steve Jobs took the iPhone from concept to shipping in 4 months you're insane. As a developer myself I understand that quality takes time. People in the crypto world are used to crap; with the possible exception of bitcoin services, are there any altcoin services out there that are both exclusive and of high quality? The security, testing, etc - I, for one, am glad these guys aren't obsessing over hype. They understand that constant hype is ridiculous and they want the product to speak for itself. Going back to your "Steve Jobs" quote, here is a tidbit for you: Apple started R&D on the iPhone 1 36 months before its release in June 2007. The iPhone 1’s full R&D costs during those 36 months have been estimated at nearly $1.5 billion. So real artists ship... but in Steve Jobs' case it took 36 months and $1.5 billion before he started shipping. I find it hilarious that you use Steve Jobs, a guy that famously delayed the release of the original Mac OS X desktop nearly 2 years to perfect the UI, as an example to reinforce your point. I don't think anybody believes the winning formula is to rush products to market... and certainly Steve Jobs didn't. If the OctoCoin team meets the ETAs they announced, that means they would be going for conception to "shipping" in about 1/6 the time it took Apple to start shipping the original iPhone. If anything, Steve Jobs would be a great counterexample for the point you are trying to make. The timeframe seems like an eternity because you haven't seen any altcoins deliver real quality software yet - ever. This is an impatient market but those who have the maturity and patience to ride things out will be rewarded here. I am 100% certain that 888 is a great investment - the only thing stopping me from saying it's the best possible altcoin investment you could make right now is that there may be some other teams out there with great stuff in the works... but I've yet to see anything with this level of potential nor this level of appeal. Not trying to be defensive (obviously I'm heavily invested in OctoCoin) but even objectively I just don't understand the purpose of your posts. If you are an impatient person, this is clearly not the currency for you. These guys aren't running a chop-shop/pump-and-dump/(insert grift of the week here) and they haven't stuck around for 4 months to make a couple thousand bucks and disappear. However, even for the impatient, 888 has proven some amazing stability - with the exception of only bitcoin, it has been the most stable coin price-wise over the past 4 months. Over the bear altcoin market these past 4 months, I can't find a single altcoin (even if you DCA) that would have been a better investment... and these guys haven't even started scratching the surface.

why do people always panic buy into sell orders when there's good news? I mean, just placing a buy order on top would give them the coins much cheaper, no need to pay the spread
