It is misleading to come to short term trading.Whether it is at a high price or not does not mean risk. Rather, entering the market with a short-term mindset is the biggest risk. The possibility of facing losses is very high. If I had gone back in the days of the past and had bought at a high price at the market price of 2018 without looking at the market fluctuations and had held it till now, I would not have been in loss. Rather, I could have always been in profit. Understanding the fluctuations of the market is important. But more important than that is my correct plan.

The truth remain that if you are in for short term gain like trading and stuff , always have some bitcoin stack in your wallet . And make sure your trading activity doesn’t affect your bitcoin plan . But is inevitable when you don’t have the skill but still go into trading you will eventually messed up yourself that’s why trading is not for everyone stick with what work for , and bitcoin accumulation with spot buying not leverage, has proven to be one of the safest means of investing in bitcoin despite that recent dip I believe no one holding with spot experience any losses , Aslong they kept holding . Most of those losses recorded after the recent dip , are from traders , so be safe at there .

One thing I know is that you can be a long-term bitcoin investor and also a bitcoin trader, I have a friend who is a long-term bitcoin investor and he also trade but he does trading just for fun, and he does not do trading always some weeks when he receive his salary he may decide not to trade for that week and use all the discretionary income he has to put in his long term Bitcoin investment, he only trade when he wants to have fun if you trade like that you won't have any problem, when you start having problem is when you use trading as your only investment or source of income that is when you face financial issues because trading is very risky because of the high volatile nature of Bitcoin.
Bitcoin long term investment is the most safest and less risky form of Bitcoin investment will have in the world right now.

Saying that someone does trading just for fun simply means that the person is willing to risk losing his Bitcoin just for fun which makes no sense, we've talked about Bitcoin being a long-term investment option over here times without number and I'll still stand on that ground that Bitcoin has nothing relating with trading cause of it's risk factors which is very high, traders are short-term profit takers while Bitcoin investment requires investors to wait patiently for a longer period before taking profits so they don't relate and the earlier your friend recognised that the better for him.

Dude are you for real, you mean someone does trading for fun? I know about this in gambling, there are some gamblers that gamble for fun,  infact when you trace down to the root of gambling, you will know that gambling was actually created for fun and it is adviseable for people to gamble with what they can afford am sorry because I have deviated to some extent from the  discussion and I must say that am sorry @JayJuanGee but I want to correct an impression here, @SuperbutMan don't think anyone tades for fun, so you.mean that someone can just trade bitcoin for fun knowing how valuable bitcoin is, even though your friend tell you that, I don't think such friend is telling you the sincere truth, he is actually trading for the money, don't think anyone that trades jokes while doing that, I agree that there are investors that trades and still holds but it is risky because trading is addictive, such investor may not keep up with his hodking, a day may come when he may start tampering his investment for trading purposes, that is why investors should practice trading no matter how they think they can be able to handle the two, trading might make investors to derail from the plan they had earlier, this may lead to serious regrets.

What's your take on this? Given the period we're in is it buy time or sell time?

I want to believe that you are referring to bitcoin. Therefore, if you think long term, you are in the buy and hold period. If you think short term you are in the panic and sell period.

This is the best way I can think of it.

"It's a buyer's market, but timing is key. With market volatility, consider buying during dips or retracements. Keep a close eye on trends, set clear entry and exit points, and prioritize risk management. Stay informed, adapt to market shifts, and be patient. Buying low and selling high requires strategic planning and discipline."

What are you saying dude, i see you are mixing both trading and investment together and you can easily confuse yourself and some people who can not be able to differentiate what you are saying. Timing the market is what traders does and not investors and it is a total waste to time the market because no matter how you time it you can not get the exact movement or direction. Risk management and patient are among the things an investor needs to scale through In their Bitcoin investment because if you are not patient enough you would sell quickly making you a trader and you don't have to over invest that is going outside your discretionary income it is wrong.
If the discussion does not consider the difference between investment and trading, then I think this discussion can definitely confuse an investor, so we should try as much as possible to discuss only investment. I do not understand how investment and trading become one because there is a lot of difference between trading and investment. Trading means buying and selling as quickly as possible. However, in the case of investment, it is not usually about selling quickly, but about holding deeply all the time. Although a trader can trade with other coins in the market, an investor always has to choose the right coin for investment and Bitcoin is always a reliable and right coin for investment. Those who have a good idea about investment will never put their money at excessive risk, that is, they will never trade. So I think we should come out of the thought of trading and think about investing in Bitcoin.
It's even wrong to be labelling it 'short term investment' it's not an investment it's a trade, true bitcoin investment can never be short term it's always a play on the long term expectations, so it not right for any investor to consider getting involved in short term investment since that will basically make them traders and not investors.
Sometimes I really wonder what would convince a person to trade bitcoin, it's not a very smart decision and it's not even profitable and looking for something profitable is what pushes people into trading so why trade when you would most likely not get any profit out of it.
It is necessary to maintain a long-term mindset in Bitcoin investment, expecting short-term profits means trading, and those who have this kind of mindset in Bitcoin have very little chance of success, rather they are likely to face losses 90% of the time. Since the ups and downs of Bitcoin are completely unpredictable, those who expect short-term success in Bitcoin investment will face losses most of the time. So you must make rational decisions with reality, the main potential of Bitcoin is in long-term holding, so when you have the ability to hold for the long term here, then you decide to invest, then it will bring you much better success than trading.

It seems you didn't read all the things I wrote before replying, you sound like Bitcoin is something that is very difficult to get, you can buy with any account you want, if you don't know there people that uses Bitcoin to buy things in some supermarket that accept Bitcoin so those it make sense to you if one is using Bitcoin to buy things in the supermarket, there are crypto casinos everywhere and people buy Bitcoin and then use it to gamble in this crypto casinos, this set of people that uses Bitcoin to purchase something and use them in cryptocurrency casinos may still have there Bitcoin investment going on.
People has a separate wallet address that is only for there long term Bitcoin investment and then they have others used on a daily basis, like me I have a separate wallet used to accumulate Bitcoin, the address I use here in this forum is different from the one I use for my Bitcoin investment.
There are a lot of people investing in Bitcoin for long term but sometimes uses 1 or 3 percent from there discretionary income to trade and they do it for fun just like people gamble for fun even with crypto coin like Bitcoin and others.

I want to believe that it's Bitcoin your are referring to, however, it also important that you first of all consider what you intend to do or how you plan to go about your investment and not only about the timing, do you plan to Buy and HODL or you intend to sell when you think it safe to do so, these are some of the factors that you should put into consideration before investing, if you have a set goal in place then it becomes easy for you, at least you would have set a time frame for your investment or except you intend to keep your Investment longer which engenders good prospects.

I agree with you on some things. For example, if you want to invest in Bitcoin, then you must have a long-term plan. Bitcoin is a currency whose value often fluctuates. I have seen in the past that the value of Bitcoin would double its value at some point. To invest in Bitcoin, you must have more patience and wait for the right time.

It is always good for an investor to have a long-term mindset. Because short-term investments carry a lot of risk. But long-term investments have a much lower risk of losing your money. Since its inception, the value of Bitcoin has increased significantly in the long term and it is expected that it will increase even more in the future.
Their is nothing as short term investment in Bitcoin, it's either you are a trader that buys and sells in a short period of time or you buy and hold strong into the future, those that are buying with the intention of selling once Bitcoin add in value are mostly traders not investors, and honestly speaking, a trader makes little or nothing in like 10 years interval when compared to a Bitcoin holder in also the same stipulated timeframe, so buying constantly and accumulating will not carries you back and forth like trading, but it's more rewarding on the longer run than trading that is more stressful but less rewarding.

Don't confuse yourself, short term investment is same thing as trading because their aim or motive is to sell whenever there is little increase in the market so the word short term should not confuse you. The amount of money or profit a trader will make in 10 years time can not be compared to what an investor will be on in 10 years time because the reason is very clear and simple, in this 10 years time a trader will be struggling to make profit and sometimes when they make profit they will also lose it when next they place another trade and this is how it will be going until this 10 years but investor's own is just accumulating and holding and there is every tendency that the price of Bitcoin won't be the same as of when they started holding.

Nope, these executions are not the same. They differ on risk, strategy and execution, but I think the profitability is both questionable since both posses same risk which is still not advisable to execute especially if they are not really paying much lots of attention on those trades or short term investment made.

With so many turbulence happening in the market those situation will make the position of traders so shaky. So if they are not really knowledgeable on other technical stuff there's good chance for them to fall out.

Unlike long term holders which target 4 - 10 years investment they have can pass 1 to 2 halving cycles which bring good impact to the price and also for their profitability in future. Also many good things are provably going to happen as Bitcoin have limited supply then institutional adoptions became more bigger and bigger with this all things leads to positive result for long term holder, that's why future is really great if people would decide to HODL rather than trading their Bitcoin.
The important of both are also on different levels, both have there own flaws and advantages,
There advantages includes
short-term
1. The investment profits are received when necessary for emergencies
2. With the right knowledge of the market ones profit increases
3. It involves lesser time
4. Investors who want to diversify into a physical investment are easily able to do so with there profits

Long-Term
1. It requires little to zero knowledge of the market
2. It is highly profitable
3. It has less risks of losing funds
4. It requires less funding
I don’t like  pyramid quoting but I had to, so others will see what you’re replying to or writing the advantages of;
I think you should spend more time reading than commenting cause obviously you don’t fully understand what you’re talking about. Most of what you wrote are wrong  and some can’t even be called an advantage. Your no.3 point for short term is just what it is, is that an advantage when you’re not even guaranteed success?. Your no. 3 and 4 are talking about easy access and usage of your profits, but I don’t really see it as an advantage cause before you can get the profit you must have invested a large amount to be able to make good profits in a short term to be able to use it.

For Longterm investment it doesn’t require less funding but it gives you an opportunity to  start small, to be able to have maximum profits you have to keep accumulating and being aggressive when you can.
You should have used basic knowledge instead of little to zero knowledge. Basic knowledge entails a lot of things but just in the surface, little to zero knowledge leads newbies to make lots of mistakes

Buying low and selling high requires strategic planning and discipline."

I totally agree with you anyone who wants to invest in Bitcoin should have the mindset and mentality to hold for long because only long term Investors or holders will get to enjoy what Bitcoin will bring forth in the future but it is quite unfortunate that most folks even knowing all these still prefer to gamble with Bitcoin because of little profit that they are not sure of and sometimes in the quest to make this little profit they end up losing more because of impatient and greed. with the potential Bitcoin has there is a possibility that it will double it value now in the future or even more.

I think one major reason that keeps some people away from investing in bitcoin, or not Hodl there bitcoin for long but sell at the slightest Dip is the fear of losing there hard earned money which they have used for the investment. No doubt, nobody wants to lose what he has laboured to get. They put in mind the volatility of Bitcoin, knowing that it can fall at any given time, so they fear greatly and becauythey can't risk it, they rather take it off or not invest at all, and to a point, I wouldn't blame them, yea. Not everyone has the mind of risk taking. Not everyone is ready to try something new.

We all know how Bitcoin drops and rises always. Even though the books and history has shown over the years that bitcoin is better of to stock and Hodl in years, they would still doing and fear. No wonder they say the market is for the strong hearted people, those with cold mindset for investment and business development through investment. They know what investment is, they understand the magic behind long term investments, and they get in and get rich over the years ahead of them.

So I wouldn't blame them that much, after all it's there money and have the right to choose what they will do with there money. I thinks it's just mentality. If they can study history about Bitcoin, understand long term investments and the importance of buying and Hodl of bitcoin, just maybe, it might change there mindset or there view about the market.

Many people think that it is easy to make profits in the short term but in reality the opposite is true. Understanding market fluctuations is certainly important but planning and patience are more important. I would like to add some more analysis on a few aspects.

First of all, what you said is that short termism is the biggest risk in the market. This is supported by both history and practical experience. For example many who traded for only a few months in the Bitcoin bull market of 2017 took excessive risks in the pursuit of small profits and suffered huge losses in the big crash of 2018. On the other hand those who adopted a holding strategy at that time made big profits in the long term. This shows that while understanding market fluctuations is important planning and patience are the greatest strength.

Second, the idea that you mentioned of "keeping some Bitcoin in your wallet" is very reasonable. While short term trading can be risky due to ignorance or inexperience holding some for the long term creates a safe buffer. This not only reduces risk but also reduces stress. Many professional investors use the same strategy. For example, Anthony Pompliano and other Bitcoin investors consider spot holding as their main investment strategy and limit trading to moderation or for fun .

Third, using trading as the sole source of income is dangerous. There is always the possibility of large losses due to short term decisions due to Bitcoin s volatility. Your friend s example is very good. He uses trading as a form of entertainment and does not let it affect his main investment. This is a great example of mental control which every new or experienced investor should follow.

The truth is some people make decisions blindly, or should I say they're just being too hasty to make profit. Because I also keep wondering why a guy will chose to go into trading that you can't take your eyes off the Market for some days, this makes we think that trading is even more stressful than most of this monthly pay jobs because it requires a lot of attention. Imagine something that requires alot of one's attention is what most people are still prioritizing over Investment that you can only showed up once is time to make your purchase then after making your purchase  you just go offline, though everyone have the right to decide what is best for them those who have decided to trade with bitcoin instead of focusing on the long term investment knows Best.

I disagree with you, I don't think fear of losing money is the major reason why people don't invest or hold Bitcoin and if I may ask you between investing and trading which one do you think someone can lose money? Off course it is trading so another question is why do they chose or prefer trading to investing and holding? The answer again is very simple is because of impatient and they want to make money very quick. And talking about Dip, dip is something that is inevitable in Bitcoin I mean it will always happen and if someone is holding Bitcoin they don't need to fear because they can't and they won't lose their money because the market will surely correct and surge so why been scared.

I guess the investment money should be a Cold money for stability of investment and not even to be seen as hard earned money since you are first to prioritize your essential needs before investment, if profits are not guaranteed then investing the amount we can tolerate is the best advice, understanding personal risk tolerance level we be needed so you don't go against it, nobody will invest that amount that is beyond their risk limit or maybe  using money meant for essential needs to invest that will not panic on seeing a dip no matter how small it will be, it will be more better to invest that amount we may not be needing for a long time by not depending on them to sort out our  bills, I blame anyone who will invest above their risk tolerance because there is no way such person can hold Bitcoin when in dip.

A sound plan also requires careful calculation and control before actually executing it. Bitcoin experienced a severe crash in 2018, which not only presented a significant opportunity for everyone, but also a positive moment for Bitcoin investors, many of whom were still hesitant to buy after seeing the price correction. By now, you should have a well-thought-out plan that capitalizes on Bitcoin and the market's momentum. Because if you have decided on a long-term investment in Bitcoin, it will at least be the best option for yourself and also for the people around you if they also ask you about Bitcoin.

Why will some one invest in bitcoin with his hard earn money don't invest in bitcoin if you don't have a discretionary income it means you are not yet to ready for the investment so don't force your self by using money you can't afford loss. Most has the wrong mindset when investing in bitcoin you won't be hospitalized if suddenly the market goes down because you invested with money you can afford to loss and not having all your eggs in one basket nothing is surely guarantee in the market so we should always buy bitcoin with our discretionary income.

If the discussion does not consider the difference between investment and trading, then I think this discussion can definitely confuse an investor, so we should try as much as possible to discuss only investment. So I think we should come out of the thought of trading and think about investing in Bitcoin.
Sometimes I really wonder what would convince a person to trade bitcoin,
I feel that d reason why most of these folks out there, settle for trading Bitcoinz instead of investing in it, is coz they are simply after quick profits. You know most of them were involved in the past with money doubling scheme,or quick money scheme. So this their involvement in all these scheme is what later on influenced them and changed their mentality, and this is what makes them to care less about any kind of scheme that requires patience or long term growth, they rather want a shorter and more faster route to profit, and as such they begin trading assets like Bitcoin coz for them it gives them that feeling of control, like they can outsmart the market.

These so called Bitcoin traders keep forgetting that Bitcoin was never ever created for short term gains. Its more of a long term investment scheme, something that one build slowly and consistently(4-10yrs+).

The fact that it is said to invest in bitcoin that it is good to make use discretionary income doesn't mean that discretionary income isn't our hard earned money. This your statement is an evidence that you don't really have a proper understanding of what discretionary income is. Discretionary income is money that is remaining after you have attended to all your expenses, so whatever you have left over is your discretionary income and is still part of your hard earned money.

If you look at the 60-70K in 2024, you will also understand what kind of opportunities the market has created for investors. There are many investors who do not take advantage of the opportunity and later regret why they did not take advantage of the opportunity, so taking advantage of the opportunity while you have time will be the best investment plan. You do not need to know much about investing, you just need mental strength and a good plan. Investment will become profitable for you only when you plan for the long term and do not miss the investment opportunity. Investing in Bitcoin alone will be the best option.
