The biggest reason for the United States to exert additional influence on the world is that they are more powerful in terms of weapons and are closely involved in the socio-economic situation of almost all countries in the world. The USA defense also needs some kind of rare metals to build weapons, and China is the main exporter of those rare earth metals. I think if Chinese products cannot sell in the USA and have to buy products with high price due to high tariffs, then the purchasing power of the people of that country will decrease.
