I've friends and relatives that have stable jobs and they're doing fine for themselves but my experience as an employee was not good. The job was really demanding and the salary was poor. I ditched it to start my own business, though it's still at the beginning stage and I'm getting many challenges but it's better than working for someone. I get to spend more time with my family, which was something I couldn't do in my previous job.

I am very happy with your decision because I also prefer to do business rather than work for others, and wish you success and prosperity with your business.


But your experience is completely opposite to what my best friend went through. A friend of mine had to sublet the coffee shop he owned. Because it leaves him with almost no time to rest, meet friends, entertain himself or take care of his children...even though the income he earns is very high.
From what I see, he has too many things to worry about when running a coffee shop like revenue, staff, facilities, premises...Not to mention facing competition, he needs to constantly innovate from flavors, store layout...to retain customers. It can be said that what he went through was not as easy as you said.


Being a business owner has more worries and challenges than being an employee. Everything has a price, there is no way a business owner can suddenly become rich and idle without having to make some trade-offs.

I would rather choose to have and run my own business, and this choice is based on my own personal experiences, I have worked for atleast 5 different companies and I was not sacked in any of them, I simply resign from one when I found another willing to promote me to a higher office where the pay is a bit better and also reduces work load, I did this until I managed to save enough money to start up a small business of my own, and from then, I realized that most jobs simply are using people.

Running your own business give you enough time to look into other important things like opportunities and so on, you have time to study and even learn some other new stuff, you have time for your family and friends, you have time for almost everything you want to do, time is very precious and this is what a job completely takes from you, it's not really about the salary and how stable the job is, it's about you having the time to even enjoy the salary you are being paid with the people you love.. This is why I believe and choose owning my own business (no matter how small) to having a job and working for another man in his own business.

Stable. I think I've shared it before but I'm more of a person who follows than the person who leads. Yes I know, it has a lot less opportunities and less profit as well, but again, preference. It might change overtime but the me right now just prefers to follow orders and do stuff that they ask, regardless of how dumb and inefficient they are.

And in general businesess would probably require big money to be successful pretty fast. Starting slow is manageable yes, but would probably take years if not decades for you to even build your next chain if it doesn't pop off due to luck.

I don't think this has a simple answer for me. There are certain factors we have to look at when making a decision. Let's start with the job.
What is the pay for the job? How about working hours? Bonuses, paid leave, and working environment, and finally, is there a viable room for regular promotion or I'm just going to be stuck in a position for 10 years?

Then, when we talk about the business, we also have to talk about the availability of capital. What kind of business? I'm not about to pass on a good job just to start a business in a field I don't know much about.
There may be other factors, but these are the main things I'll look at when choosing.

I second this, having my own business would drain too much energy from me and on this point of my life I don't think it would be right choice for me.

That would depend on the job, compared to the idea i had for my own business.

Steady job: I wouldn't need to care about nothing but my work. And depending what benefits i would have, they could be way more then i could provide for myself with my own business.

My own business: Currently i don't have any idea for a business that would be worth the risk. And even if i had, i would need right network, right skills, enough capital, enough free time and organization skills. Not to mention that i would carry ton of responsibility. It's a way to be your own boss, but there's a reason you often hate your own boss.

So currently i would choose a steady job with good benefits, if work environment wouldn't be too toxic

They are definitely people on this path, most people do not like extra stress and also risk that comes from owning up anything on their own, that’s why we still have some people who prefers bitcoin on ETF or exchanges than have a self custodianship

But I will say statistically if not for the capital and the risk involved I think majority of people prefer having to run their own business this is because the fastest way to financial freedom or independence is through having your own business, working for someone had this disadvantage that no matter how dedicated you are to the work you’re simply building someone’s else business with only your career skills the only thing that is increasing, but in running your own business you are not only making a way for yourself but also for some people and most importantly your family that could get to liberated financially through this businesses if it grows big.

Yes when you start the business you can still be working your usual job and casually be running the business or have a sales person, it is usually risky to quit your job for a start up which hasn’t yield efficient returns that’s what I think the quoted post states. The funds from your Job can be used for emergency funds which allows the business funds to be un tampered with and once the business gets above the beta stage then one can actually decide to quit and focus fully on running it

I myself want a business and last month I had time to run it as best I could but there was a problem that I thought was difficult to overcome so that made me take steps to stop it first, now I want a stable job with finances so that I can make my business run better in the future. If the stable job is at least sustainable and will not require me to commit too much of my time and effort to it, then I will prefer it over starting up a business of my own. The reason is simple, the economy is not getting better by the day and the cost and demands that comes with owing and running a business all by yourself is one that id not easy at all.

I think that many people who say that they want their own business, have no idea about how stressful it can be. A well-established business with a very good structure is very comfortable to run and gives you a very high quality of life you basically rest and get lots of money in your pocket but if you start a business, the process is very stressful and because of this stress, many people quit. I say it from my experience as a UI/UX designer since I've worked with many companies and individuals. By the way, in a stable job, if you mean being employed and getting a monthly salary, then I'd say that it's not good too. I was working like that, earning a normal salary but that wasn't enough and at the same time I took some jobs from friends and this was the moment when I decided to become more independent in my job and become more of a freelancer. Taking my current situation and future goals under consideration, I will choose business over a job because we get an opportunity to earn beyond the limits of a fixed salary. If we own a business, the biggest advantage is that we will not work under any supervision in opposite labour will work under us which will make us great wealth. In a job we are offered a limited salary which we predict every month and we spend this money within limits. As an employee, we are not offered a salary that will be enough to easily handle our expenses.

No need to choose because you can actually be able to do both things if you wanted to. Lets say you do have the job then the amount that you do earn or a part of it will be saved up for future use like trying out to have plans on running up a business. Yes, its not simple specially if we are just that average wage earners plus having that tons of expenses then you can hardly be able to have that savings and thats why most of people do just simply remains as it should be because they dont have any choices left for this one.
