I believe that these types of measures are not bad as part of an overall strategy, but you cannot rely on them as if they were infallible for controlling your behaviour.  There are always ways to get around these kinds of measures, although if you consult a professional because you want to quit gambling or any other addiction, these measures are usually recommended as part of the plan, not to rely on them alone.
