People nowadays tend to be easier tempted by materialistic things. Wherher it’s the brand new phone, or a brand new line of clothes, a new coffee shop or restaurant to try. Everyone wants to buy it immediately but the question is, can they really afford it? Are they living above their means? Do the younger generation have their priorities in reverse by succumbing into luxuries?

Living a luxurious life can be very injurious to a person, as so many disadvantages are associated with living a luxurious lifestyle.
When you leave a luxurious lifestyle, it will be difficult for that person to sustain and achieve his or her financial goals and objectives on the long run.
Some body who have a luxurious lifestyle, is only after flashy things that don't have real value, something like latest cars, phones etc, and they are all without real value.

I once read the story of this footballer call Sadio Mane, a Senegalese player who take pleasure in removing their people from poverty and making life very easy for them, he doesn't live a luxurious lifestyle but bent in making lives  better for their people and because of this good attitude towards using money, his name is ever written with golden pen in the history of Senegal.

There is saying that wealth is as lasting as the wisdom used to manage it, do not leave life lavishly, invest your money wisely, and invest in things that are assets and not liabilities, otherwise, it will lead to financial mismanagement and finally making your to face financial instability.

Luxury is often considered as expensive but not a necessity. But just to be clear, buying a new smart phone, new clothesline or dining in newly opened restaurants, I don’t think they all contribute to luxury in life. Instead, they are just some kind of wants that anyone would actually aim to have or experience, but they are never that kind of luxury that only rich and powerful people can always afford.

What you mentioned OP are never that really expensive, and any working individual who is making a sufficient amount of income will certainly afford it, but for those who have no source of income for now, it’s better to say they just need to delay their wants and just prioritize their necessities in life.

Yes, people are more attracted to materialistic things without considering their future finances. Most people's needs are much higher than their means, such a tendency is an innate human instinct. An expensive phone or a car among luxury goods are sometimes considered luxurious. People's satisfaction with materialistic goods is very narrow because their demand for more expensive phones, expensive cars and another house keeps increasing. In most cases, if their income is limited, they buy those things even if they take loans. In general, actually no, they force their situation too much to buy luxury goods so that in the eyes of other people they look capable or well-off and financially they are not ready, following social media trends and other people's lifestyles is what makes them fall into the trap financially. yeah Gen Z &  millennials are indeed spending more on luxury stuff at times, on the whole social media has become much more valuable in terms of their status, image &  followers. many are buying luxury bag dupes or cheaper alternatives that look luxurious but arent expensive.  But its not all luxury actually, at the same time, many are becoming very wide awake, spending on a budget &  trying to save. The value over vanity shift is also growing due to economic incertitude.

So, indulging in luxury products is indeed a phenomenon however its not the case that everyone is doing it. Many people like to have nice things however the interest is not just in showing off, but also in safety, savings & quality.

Poor people are not out there buying the latest phone straight up with money out of pocket. They just buy it like 30 bucks a month with their carrier, so it takes years, and then they upgrade if they have an old phone because after a while old phones do not get updates and start being terrible, probably every 5 years. That's how they get a brand new phone.

Because if you get the three year old version, then in 2-3 years it will stop working, so get the brand new one, so it can work for 5-6 years easily. Don't get me wrong, you can use it for longer, but it will start being not good, so at least give them the benefit of the doubt for 30 bucks a month, they deserve at least that much improvement, it should be acceptable spending.

Most younger generation are just after materialistic things, they don’t care using everything they have in buy latest phone or other things that are not really necessary, most of them just want to be noticed, they want to feel among, they want to impress their friends and other people which is not really necessary, after impressing people, you will end up getting broke again, and you will end up regretting.

As a young person, you should learn to invest, learn to grow, all those materialistic things won’t help you later in the future, the investment which you make today is what’s going to help you later in the future.

I don't really agree with the fact that luxury kills, it all depends on a persons decision and discipline,I feel peoples lack of discipline is what kills them.
Money is not evil, but it just shows a persons true colors after having possession of it. Blaming luxury is like blaming money, it just depends on how you earned it, if you earned it in a good way, luxury should motivate and not kill you.

I agree, social media has changed peoples vision on luxury. Luxury dont kill, wrong people use and own luxury items. For example Rolls Royce was a car of status. I was used to see a person in age driving such cars, a person who has achieved something in life, who had incredible skills. What we have now: a girl that sells pictures of her toes or sell bottle with her smell drives Rolls Royce and teach others how to live. Or a pimpled teenager in premium BMW with lots of horse power, that suppose to be used in sports or highways. This is the reason most people in the US use credit cards, and they are in debt. They quickly jump over and buy the latest version of the iPhone. They buy expensive clothes, shoes, and devices just to show off and post on Instagram. When it comes to travelling, most people do not care about nature. They travel just because they want to shoot some cool photos and post them on Instagram. That has become a craze in recent times.

I won't lie. I myself went to a place a few months ago, not because I wanted to see it, but to take some pictures and post them on social media like Facebook. We are trapped, man. If we do not follow what others are doin, they think we are back dated.

Yes, we only live once, so as long as we can afford it and have ample wealth, enjoying luxury won't be a problem, especially if we're able to save and invest. However the problem arises when you're financially unstable but pretend to live a luxurious life, which leads to ruin.

So Op's statement is not wrong because luxury is indeed financial ruin. When you enjoy luxury without sufficient income and wise financial management, this will have fatal consequences, pushing you into a consumptive lifestyle beyond your means. As a result your debts will pile up, creating financial instability and even financial ruin. What I mean is that the desire to live a luxurious life while maintaining the appearance of luxury often leads you into a cycle of spending and debt without even realizing it.

This only happens when a person has money and when the time comes, he feels the lack and becomes weak, then his luxury habit destroys him and anyway our elders have said that do not waste money so that later you will have to suffer losses. I friend that was looking for an apartment said that he prefers to live where rich people lives so that he will have connections with them. I told him that the idea is good but it is not possible to actualize it for now, if he uses his life savings to pay for accommodation in such area how can he cope with subsequent rent. Most people don't buy luxuries with their own money because they don't have any. They compel their guardians to do it for them by forcing them, being stubborn, getting angry or sad, showing that they wouldn't talk to anyone or eat food if their demands are not fulfilled, and because of this, their guardians can't help but give up and finally either borrow money from others, take loans, or use all their savings to fulfill the needs of their children only so that the children can show-off to the world and become a part of a trend that doesn't have any logical reason to exist in the first place.

The society we live in is becoming worse and worse over time, and it's all because of such people. They don't have any compassion, no feelings for others and understanding anyone's situation or compulsions; all they want is that their demands should get fulfilled. Believe me, if any of these people start making money themselves, that's when they will understand how valuable money is, and then you will barely see them spending their money on useless things like that.

The thing about younger generation is that they realized long time ago the older generations will not allow them to have a decent life. Until all boomers die, we are going to live a life where its not going to end up with a good economy, they need to die and leave their heavy treasury to other generations before we can see it grow. They have worked for two years and bought houses, that type of economy doesn't exist anymore.

So as you can see, that younger generation who got fucked by the terrible economy and entrenched positions of the older generations realized the coffee they buy is their life, the subscriptions, the dating apps, the luxury phones, because that's all they can afford.
