Another sad news but I think it happens due to desperation when these people have no other option but to gamble to address their financial instability. But that's the problem, if they are not capable of paying their bills and other obligations, they should stop gambling and have to find ways of paying their debts through part time jobs or any side hustles that they know they're good with. It's very bad to read news of these people ending their lives because they've lost probably their very last money and they don't have any solution to it anymore. rip.

It is really sad to observe how an over indulgence into gambling can destroy the future of a person who has not yet finished his journey. Why will you even gamble with the money that doesn’t belong to you, I don’t even know how some people do think because I will say it’s not just proper. People like this are the people that makes people think gambling is just a bad activities in the society.

I heard the news earlier but the most surprising thing is that the amount which he lost isn’t something thats so much, I heard he lost 600,000 naira which is around $410. How will you commit suicide because of amount like this.

Maybe he thought that they were going to expelled him from the school when they finds out that he has lost all the money since the money belongs to the university, so perhaps the fear of the mockery to him and his parents including how his labour in school could be ending just at a blink could have made him find solution in this act, is saddened a heart to see a bright younth who could have represented something big in the country in future just died because of something he could have recovered the lost in future. I thought that in 2026 I would hardly read news like this, about people who still "manage" to go to the extreme of taking their own lives because of gambling.

Nowadays we have a lot of information to know that gambling is not (and never has been) the solution to debt, but it is incredible to see news like this of people who still see gambling as a financial solution and become so desperate when they lose everything that they commit suicide, this is truly regrettable.

I see that the people most prone to this are really the poorest, people who already have financial difficulties and after being deluded by gambling end up creating debts that become impossible to pay, then they prefer to "end it all" rather than face the collection, the consequences and the shame.

When you’re already in that situation, sometimes all you can really do is pray, because addiction means you’ve started losing control of yourself. At that point, you need help from other people just to get out of the hole you’re in. But for someone who has no one to talk to or lean on, they tend to keep everything inside and let the addiction slowly take over. That’s when things can spiral, and sadly, situations like this, or even worse, can happen.

i dont even see the reason why someone will kill himself because of loses in gambling, we can only gamble with what we can afford to lose and not what will lose our life. i just see the case of a man who has lose the amount he cant pay back to the landlord and he thinks that taken his life will be the best option, but i think he is just being ignorant of the fact that life is not worth to be taking away by mere dept. so far as life is concerned there is hope. there was i time i owe a lot of dept. that going out was difficult for me and i thought of many thing including ending my life, but today i have settled those dept. and even people are owing me today. that is life for you, a tenant  may become a landlord tomorrow and if anyone kill himself because of a small dept then the person will lose more, because he will lose his life and his family member will still pay the dept. so what is the essence of taking his life when the dept will still be paid afterall.

Gambling can never solve your financial problems but rather add to your problems. Regardless of your debt, you shouldn't take your life because it doesn't worth it. Death can not wave the debt, you'll leave it behind for your family to pay and still cause them emotional stress for mourning your death.

It's honestly heartbreaking to read news like this. A student wouldn't resort to that if there weren't a deep-seated addiction in their character; that addiction tempted them to do something they never should have done.

When things didn't go as expected, the intense stress and depression pushed them to commit such a gruesome act as suicide. Tragically, the urge to gamble wasn't managed properly. This is why it’s so vital for us to maintain control and manage our gambling habits correctly.
