With Monero the problem is again privacy, right now it offers reasonable privacy, but once the RingCT gets cracked the problem is that every single transaction will be traceable, the entire blockchain will be exposed.
This is not the case with other privacy coins like PIVX and DASH, they are much more secure in that sense.

But as long as RingCT stays strong Monero is a decent option technically.

This is straight FUD. Dash and PIVX (like most other privacy oriented cryptos) have optional privacy which renders the privacy feature questionable at the least.
Monero has one of the strongest dev teams who will make sure that Monero will remain secure.

Another issue with Monero is the likelihood of big whales, that would be much bigger still than any Bitcoin whales, i don't think people hodling 500k XMR are rare in this community. You can bet your ass they will dump soon, people just want Dollars, not crypto, as sad as it is, it's still the truth of this world.

This goes for all cryptos but in the coming years the US Dollar might very well be much more volatile than solid cryptocurrencies. Cliff High predicts that in the future, people will remain in crypto and the dollar will lose importance. It's not an unlikely scenario.

Even as a short term cautious guy, I would have sold only 25-50%: there is still significant room for upside, I would bet for higher highs rather than lower low now.

I'm not so worried at this time about the price per coin as much as the marketcap. So, I expect in the next several days to a week will surpass them in marketcap, possibly even reaching the $3 to $3.5B mark.

I expect 0275-0293 to be support levels, and will buy in that range to recover xmr lost via offers above 0320, but I see no reason this bump doesn't take us to 0600 territory after a little consolidating breather.  Supply is just too tight at these levels, using the short-term thumb rule again.

Abstract: Monero is a cryptocurrency that has rapidly gained popularity since its launch in April 2014. The source of its growth can be mainly attributed to its unique privacy properties that go well beyond the pseudonymity property of cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin. In this work, we conduct a forensic analysis of the Monero blockchain. Our main goal is to investigate Monero’s untraceability guarantee, which essentially means that given a transaction input, the real output being redeemed in it should be anonymous among a set of other outputs. To this end, we develop three heuristics that lead to simple-to-implement attack routines.

We evaluate our attacks on the Monero blockchain and show that in 87% of cases, the real output being redeemed can be easily identified with certainty. Moreover, we have compelling evidence that two of our attacks also extend to Monero RingCTs — the second generation Monero that even hides the transaction value. Furthermore, we observe that for over 98% of the inputs that we have been able to trace, the real output being redeemed in it is the one that has been on the blockchain for the shortest period of time. This result shows that the mitigation measures currently employed in Monero fall short of preventing temporal analysis.

Motivated by our findings, we also propose a new mitigation strategy against temporal analysis. Our mitigation strategy leverages the real spending habit of Monero users.
