I have spent a few Monero in the last few weeks.

Honestly it was quicker and easier than bitcoin.

Maybe the seller respected the payment method more or something.

XMR has been faster and more economical (by wide margins) than BTC for quite a while.  I use XMR.to if I must pay out BTC.

I dont think should be any change. There are a lot alternatives to xmr.to.  What could happen is that more merchants accept Monero directly. It is definitely a good reason to ask Bitcoin merchants right now to add Monero payment option.

It feels like the government or some regulatory authorities are starting to poke around the service.  I mean I’m pretty sure not all conversions done thru the site are exactly legal.

Anyway yeah...  It’s sad to see it go.

If law enforcement demanded information from xmr.to, the demand almost certainly came with a gag order.  xmr.to would be committing a criminal offence if they revealed the request.  Which might be why they're shutting.  Their conscience won't let them keep operating while secretly cooperating with law enforcement.
