I guess it is safe to say that rx 480 can do 200 s/s?

Earlier when mining profits were at this level everyone was interested in power consumption, now all I can see is 50 pages of 470 and 480 doing what 160-210?

Someone with some spare time after again hitting tdp, please post your wattage readings. And no gpu-z, from the wall.

I run ROM modded non-ref Sapphire RX 480 8 GB 1280/2100 @ ~1.000 Vcore and have 198-200 on Claymore V8.

Do not see any reason why it's unsafe.

Ok, so it looks like everyone else is getting approximately the same hashrate difference for R9 390 vs. RX 480. I get 260 H/s and 190 H/s respectively with mine (both 8 GB). So my question is, is it expected that the 480 hashrate is only 73% of the 390? Is it because of the lower power consumption on the 480? With every other miner/currency so far, my 480s hash at about the same rate as my 390s. Is this something new with v8.0?

this could be due to excessive overclocking or undervolting.

not overcklock, not undervolt, there is change bios
did not claymore 5, 6, 7 only 8

Try reducing the intensity. Use -i 5 or 4 or 3. The V8 stress the GPU more. I had the same problem with V8.

my 380 read ~38 watts on gpuz, my 390 is at about 120w and my OC 390 is closer to 200w. it's on a gold 1200w PSU, running in an ambient temp of ~14c, near an open window, VRM temps of 10c at idle.

GPU-Z is such bs, look for at the wall readings.

No it is not. It is because 290/ 390(x) are high end cards vs 470 low-mid/ 480 mid level, amd has not released that high performance gpu yet.

470/ 480 owners were lucky to enjoy hig end hashing rates at one algo with some bios modding. Today ancient 290 hashes more than 470/ 480 with the same or better hash/ watt ratio, better get used to it.

ps. what where those every other currencies where 480 matched 390?

After the v8, both of my r9 280x have died. Be carefull.

I don't really believe in coincidences... But I'm not sure. Maybe usage went up, and so did temps? Maybe they got hot enough to melt the solder, or something like that. I have a pretty aggressive fan curve on afterburner, even though my cards stay fairly cool. Around 75% fan at all times, or more if temps go anywhere over 80C.

I had same problem, it is thermopaste problem, i changed it and the problem was gone. temp went about 20C down.

you're more than probably right, I'm just too lazy to order an overpriced wattmeter online or take a bus across town to some sketchy electronic liquidator on my "day off". either way i'm clearly well within my PSU's tolerance margin, and my temps are cooler than ETH, so it can't be THAT far from the truth but being off by 15+ () watts is hardly accurate either. i can see my 390s being closer to those temps than my 380, no way it's under 40 watts, but there's no way its anywhere near 220 either.

While R9 serie has better hash, I don't quite agree about the hash/watt ratio. My RX 470 has better hash ratio than my 290x and the R9 is undervolted, not the the RX.

The R9 390's have more memory bandwidth (384 bit i believe) which makes them ideal for the Zcash mining algorithm. RX 480's only have 256 bit.

1xR9 290x 250 h/s 270 watt , 1xRX 470 185 h/s 110 watt. I think beter 2xRX 470 370 h/s only 220 watt.

Look at your 290x bios with hawaiibiosreader, pay some attention to those powerplay tables. Try those core speeds listed in dpm 2-7 + every combination listed in memory dpm 2-7.

Add afterburner -100mV or trixx -200mV and try what works best for you.
