Whatever the growth for cricket, I think it will always stay in the 2nd place. No one can overtake the popularity of football/soccer in my opinion. It's true that cricket crazy people are mostly in south Asia but everywhere in the world you will find people play football.

People play cricket too in most of the countries including Brazil and Argentina. Brazil's first cricket match was against Argentina in 1888. Brazil ICC status is associate member since 2017 and Argentina since 1974. Problem is in those country, football is widely adopted and no to very little chance of being cricket flourished there. It obviously makes sense that soccer is way more popular than cricket in Brazil considering the fact that it is one of the best countries in this regard producing amazing soccer stars over the years.

Wait for next 30-50 years China will join the big 3 tables ( Indian monopoly finished then lol in terms of viewership), Title would change to Big 4 (England, Aus, India, and China). Japan and Korea doing their best as well. Canada leading the way, Americans trying hard too. In the Western national team, Players from Indian subcontinent can easily migrate if they want to and they do that on a regular basis, another way to create diversity in World cricket.

Yes will need to wait and see for that.

I go with Juggy777. I am not sure what made Sithara007 to say something like this. Cricket is the 2nd most playing sports in the world and loved by Billions.
I expect this world cup will be one of the best entertaining event in the history.
Loved by billions? I can count 1.5 billion in South Asia (India+Pakistan+Bangladesh). There may be a few million outside (mostly the Indian diaspora). Cricket is the no.1 sport only in South Asia. Even in countries such as Australia and England, its popularity is much lower than that of other sports such as football and boxing. A tournament played by just 10 countries (of that 5 in South Asia) can't be called a "world" cup. They should rename it to something like Commonwealth cricket championship.

Not sure how you come up with these numbers. I think you need to do some research before brining out some of your opinion. And no one is here saying that cricket is no 1 in the world. We all are saying it's the number 2 sports :-D By the way, boxing is not that much popular in the countries you mentioned. Not sure about Australia but in England, I think I know better about here. I am not only talking about England but the entire United Kingdom FYI.

Its good to see that you now moved on from your previous accusations and talking about Cricket now. I suggest you should check the links which already posted in this thread by other posters. this would clear your confusion about Cricket popularity around the World. It ranks 2nd in the world. I agree In England and Australia cricket is not the most popular sport despite being a national sport but its arguably in 2 and 3rd spot when competing with Football and Netball/NRL respectively. Having said that you might wanna check Cricket craze during Ashes too. In case you don't know there are almost 90+ countries who play cricket as an Associate member, but they are yet to qualify for Full Member. Recently Afganistan and Ireland promoted as a Full member. I am sure you know what's the condition of Afganistan. its war-torn country and not very rich but still they managed to qualify for Full membership. only because of their dedication and love for the game. if they can then everybody can. If you think ICC doing nothing for World Cricket then that might be news for you that ICC already Gave 20-20 status to All Associate Members. http://www.espncricinfo.com/story/_/id/23324980/t20s-all-icc-members-international-statusAnd I strongly suggest that you should Google " World Cricket League" and check process of qualifier. I am sure, after checking this you will retract your quote can't be called a "world" cup. They should rename it to something like Commonwealth cricket championship.

@Royse guess you are talking about this post? @eaLiTy you might wanna Click thisYh this was the post. Thanks bud. @eaLiTy, feel free to read those references. Cricket is not only popular in India but in the whole world. Over 2 Billion people loves cricket. Not a small number :-) What i was trying to tell is that the huge popularity of the sport is because of the huge population in these countries, like India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and their combined population will be around 1.8 Billion, add Srilanka and Afghanistan combined you will get over 2 Billion people , it was just a jab i intended in my last post, the reality i know is that i have being to some European countries where they have not heard about the sport of cricket, it is very popular in common wealth countries and only these countries are playing cricket in international level too, in layman terms which ever countries the British conquered during their reign, they play cricket , i did not dispute about the popularity of the sport and i know very well how popular it is in Asian countries and GCC where you will see many tournaments on a weekly basis. @JSRAW, cheers mate.

Okay let's not make this post talking back and forth about the popularity, who play and who do not play types of arguable comments. In this forum, the cricket community is very small. Honestly speaking there are only few of us. I think I can count them easily and call their names however I am sure there will be more in the future. Let's enjoy the matches and move on.
To me, the popularity or anything else about cricket does not matter. I love cricket, I go crazy when my team wins, hit sixes, hit fours, takes wickets. That's matter for me. And I will be doing whatever I can do in my power to give my time and wealth to this sports.
Cheers :-)

Now a days i watch cricket when ever i get time, there was a time when i used to watch every ball being bowled and i remember almost all the matches i watched and a time where i used to spend the entire day in the cricket ground playing all day long but with time and age some things change for the better and that is life.

@eaLiTy @Sithara007 100% agreed with you on this that the majority of cricket viewers belongs to South Asia but I don't see any wrong in this. Our discussion should focus on what ICC doing for World cricket, as of now they are going slow but they indeed trying hard in this regard. I somehow agree with the @Sithara007 point of view because I am in favor of more countries participating in the Cricket World Cup but not accusations and name changing of World Cup lol. @Royse bhai got tired repeating the same argument, again and again, As long as we are discussing cricket related issue within a healthy and respectful manner then it's all fine.

My opinion is that it's too early to pick a team. Hard to have the outright. I had a quick look in bet365 and according to them Oz has the most chances although I don't think they will be correct.
I guess there are good chances for India and England.
I respect your opinion, but i think South Africa is best team and also Australia, May be you are disagree with my opinion, but as you said it is too early to judge which team will be better but i think after 4 or 5 matches then we quickly judge which team will be nearest to win the world cup, but my vote for South Africa.

I assume Warne has no brain, sorry but.. Seems like Sachin still hits him boundary in his dream
