Btw, I didn't know that so many countries are playing cricket now, that's amazing. Maybe in future we will see 32 team world cups, any thoughts?

The list is from Twenty20, most of the country is not qualified for ODI & Test.

The ICC has been reducing the number of participants, and I expect it to go down further in the future. They might reduce the current 10 team participation to either 8 or 6 by 2027. As we have seen from this world cup so far, teams such as Sri Lanka and South Africa have lost their capability to compete against the major teams such as India and Australia.

A six or eight team tournament would not feel like a world cup. For a world cup, we would need teams from around the world. And personally I didn't liked the current single league nature of world cup. There would be no surprise left for semis and finals when all teams would have played with all. If they really want to have a league, they should go with home and away format.

There are many countries playing cricket and they are conducting tournaments between these assiciate countries for a long time and with the introduction of T20 cricket we might see more countries participating in the T20 world cup in the future but not in ODI or Test cricket, the level of talent pool in the top teams in internaional cricket which is ICC full member teams and Associate teams cannot be compared, these associate members usually play in qualifying tournaments before every ICC events and if they qualify they can play in world cup and other ICC events.

This might be the first world cup with so much unpredictable results and more matches being washed out due to weather, i made a small bet against Bangladesh against their match with West Indies and on papers West Indies have a long batting line up with batsman who could easily clear the ropes with ease but Bangladesh dominated them while chasing and ending up winning quite easily, any cricket experts here expecting any other upset in this tournament, if so i would like to hear.

Like I mentioned in the other discussion thread about Bangladesh, they could be the dark horse of this World Cup and I even said that they could sneak into the top 4 and play in the semi-finals. They have shown that they can play well against the good teams and maybe this World Cup is their time to shine. It will take just one slip up from one of the top 4 teams and Bangladesh can sneak in. Right now that team could be New Zealand as they haven't played the top team yet so we could see Bangladesh make it, outside of the top 4 I think Bangladesh is the better team.

There is no need to get excited over a win against the West Indies. The Windies are no longer one of the cricket powerhouses. But it was a good comfortable victory, and will do a lot to strengthen the morale of the Bangladeshi players. But for them, the big test is coming up. Their next match is against Australia on 20th and to be honest I have zero hopes for an upset. And then they will face the South Asian teams (AFG, IND, PAK). Unless they manage to win 3 out of their next 4 matches, I don't think that they can qualify for the playoffs.

I'm not getting excited my friend, I'm just saying that Bangladesh have a good chance to make the semi-finals. Yes I agree they have a big test coming up as they start to play two of the top teams in the tournament however I can see them winning 2 of the 4 matches coming up. I don't think they will beat Australia and India but the other two matches they can win if they play well. Then they just need New Zealand to drop a few matches and Bangladesh will be in with a shot to make the semi-finals. New Zealand's last couple of matches are against Australia and England and we never know what the WI can do on a good day so potentially New Zealand could lose 3-4 matches coming up so lets see what happens.

My prediction for the semifinals remain the same: India, Australia, New Zealand and England. Two of them are currently having 8 points, while the other two are having 7 points (but these two have an additional match to spare). Bangladesh only have 5 points from 5 matches and even if they win 3 out of their remaining 4, it will get them to 11 points. New Zealand currently have 7 points from 4 matches. Also, they have the highest NRR for any team in the tournament and they just need to win 2 of their remaining 5 matches to overtake Bangladesh.

I never expected Pakistan to beat a strong batting line up like England and that was an upset for me and i never expected Bangladesh beating South Africa and after their performance against South Africa chasing the total of West Indies was not an upset, i never expected Eoin Morgan to smash Rashid Khan like that and he could concede the most runs.

NZ vs SA, South Africa missed many chances in the field even today and if they could have held on to that catches they could have beaten NZ in this match.

I am not much surprised. South Africa has been losing its younger players to countries such as England and New Zealand for a long time. The Kolpak system in England has enabled dozens of South Africans to shift their loyalties to the British county sides. This outflow is not just triggered by the monetary attraction. Politics also plays a significant part, just like the case with Zimbabwe. When the best players get overlooked due to politics, obviously they get dejected and look for other options.

I don't think that the two wins (out of the next four matches) for Bangladesh will be enough, they need to get at least three wins in order to qualify for the semi-finals. With two more wins, they'll have only 9 points. IMO, we've three clear semi-finals qualifiers:

-England
-India
-Australia

The fourth spot is solely going to depend upon the net run-rate at the end until and unless New Zealand beats both, the Pakistani team and the West Indies team. In the end, we're going to have three teams with 11 points, and these three teams will potentially be New Zealand, Bangladesh, or Pakistan.

Eng vs. Sri = Eng wins
Ind vs. Afg = Ind wins
WI vs. NZ = NZ wins

Pak vs. NZ
WI vs. Ind = Ind wins
Sri vs. SA = Sri wins
Pak vs. Afg = Pak wins
NZ vs. Aus
Eng vs. India = Eng wins
Sri vs. WI = WI wins
Ban vs. Ind = Ind wins
Eng vs. NZ = Eng wins
Afg vs. WI = WI wins
Pak vs. Ban
Sri vs. Ind = Ind wins
SA vs. Aus = Aus wins

If the results go according to what I've mentioned, the fourth spot will heavily depend upon the above four bolded matches, as:

-if New Zealand wins both the matches (against Pakistan and Australia), they'll get the fourth spot.

-if Pakistan is able to win against New Zealand and Bangladesh, while New Zealand beats Australia, then New Zealand will still get the fourth spot. If the same happens but Australia succeeds in beating New Zealand, then the net run-rate of New Zealand and Pakistan will be compared.

-OTOH, Bangalis need to get three wins and hope that Kiwis don't get the two wins out of all their matches.

IMO, today's match against Australia of Bangalis is going to be a very important one for their survival in the world cup. Bangladesh CAN do it, they've got the potential and if they remain positive, they can beat Australia.

England, NZ, India and OZ by far has being the top 4 teams if you see the way they have played cricket deserve to be in the top 4 for the semi final place. It would be interesting to see among thise top 4 who makes it to the finals of the WC

The semifinal’s slots have been filled as per the current standings with New Zealand, Australia, England and India proceeding ahead unless they loose their remaining matches. Australia won’t be loosing out to Bangladesh, and I have a feeling they’ll defeat Bangladesh easily.

Clearly England, New Zealand, Australia and India would be in the semi finals.
The position could be difficult to predict. India hasn't lost any match so hasn't New Zealand. Both of England and Australia has lost one.
The first on the league would compete with the fourth while the third will take the second. I believe it would be England and India in the finals and I'd hope it would rain.
I don't wan to see England again being defeated in the final on it's own ground.

The excuse they have for not allowing AB De Villiers in their world cup squad is that, he wished his desire to be in the world cup team just before the announcement of the squad and it would hurt the morale of the team if they include a player who was not in the picture for a long time, ABD is the worlds best player even now and he has every rights to be in any world eleven with his sheer talent alone and if he was included in the team they will not be in the same situation like this, this is by far the worst performance by team South Africa in ICC tournaments.

Australia in all probability is going to win today's match. That means that they are almost assured of a playoff spot. But let's take the point table as of yesterday, as all the teams had 5 matches each. New Zealand is at the top, with 9 points. England and Australia are having 8 and India is 4th placed with 7 points. Now these four teams are far ahead of the remaining teams. Never before the playoff spots looked so predictable in a world cup.

Yes, the target is really very high which it is impossible to chase the target, the only thing they can do now is to reduce net run rate. If they start losing wicket defensively it will hurt their net run rate.

Bowlers from every team aren't getting any advantage from the pitch... letting all the teams score a huge number.

It looks like 300+ score is as easy as 1.2.3 in England grounds. Most of the matches scored 300+ if I am not wrong.

I am not sure why everyone is praising Bangladesh. They have so far conceded two scores in excess of 380 in this tournament (386 against England and 381 against Australia). They might have scored some runs, but on all the occasions, they did that when the opponent had put up a huge score and was more relaxed about bowling. They did managed to beat both West Indies and South Africa, but we need to remember that these two teams were sliding down continuously for the past decade or so.

They might have scored some runs, but on all the occasions, they did that when the opponent had put up a huge score and was more relaxed about bowling. They did managed to beat both West Indies and South Africa, but we need to remember that these two teams were sliding down continuously for the past decade or so.

The good thing about Bangladesh compare to other teams is their consistent performance. They have performed well on every matches with both bats and balls.
If their game against Sri Lanka, they could have chances of reaching the semi finals. They are definitely the 5th team for this world cup.

Even though they lost they have fought till the end, really impressive batting side from Bangladesh and it is going to be very challenging in the coming matches. The pressure will be kept increasing and most of the teams will look to secure their position for the semi-finals.
