I believe that we are only talking about bitcoin in this thread and not about shitcoins.

Not all coins have cycles and need as much time as others to see the profits made, so would it be considered trading or investing still?

Any coin without a circle is very risky to invest in because you don't understand much about such project. I don't call that investing but gambling, because you are putting your funds in a blind project that you cannot tell the possible outcome in the next four years. Look at bitcoin that has a circle and people can use history to predict or speculate on the price of bitcoin on what it will get to in the next four years. It shows can you can confide in bitcoin and continue hodli for long.

With some alts, there is only a year or two when you need to rip off your PNL, with newer ones - it's more like a roller coaster of possibilities.

That's not investing because how will you put your money into a project that last for one or two years and say you are investing. You are only trading/gambling, because an investment should be running for a long period of time to generate profit from time to time, without shutting down the investment  because it's flourishing. If you sell your bag of shitcoins and take profit, what next. You buy another shitcoin and before you know it you will run at big loss because nobody knows which shitcoin can be profitable in the short run, and majority of them bring losses to people who buy them foolishly thinking that they are investing.

Yes there is nothing wrong with that word “don't put your eggs in one basket” but my mind is that bitcoin is different even if you put all your assets in bitcoin you don't have to worry about bitcoin going back up every cycle so this is what bitcoin is called a priority or people will say a special asset.

Your explanation about Bitcoin investment seems to be inaccurate because there's no short term holding or  short term investment in bitcoin. In my opinion, someone can be called a long-term bitcoin investor, in general they always hold bitcoin for a period of more than 5 years. Because if for example the duration is less than 5 years, in my opinion someone like that cannot be called a long-term investor in bitcoin. Agree, If we look at the increase rate of coins in this bull run, only Bitcoin has given the highest return. Not only in terms of return, but if we want to invest based on reliability, Bitcoin will be at the top of all. So pumping money into altcoins and shitcoins would not be referred to as investments, but gambling/trading since you cannot comfortably leave those funds there for a long-term, but be consistently monitoring when it pumps so you can exit the market in profits

And when he bought the last bitcoins for last year, the price of bitcoin was about $91+k if I could still remember. And today I saw a notification that Michael Saylor sold bitcoins and made $1 billion profit from the sale. And he started his investment from 2020. In my previous comments, I said that bitcoin investment is all about the profit and not the longevity. The long term investment is depends on how much or how many bitcoins the investor has accumulated. I always said, you can buy bitcoin when the price is low and sell it when the profit is high and if you decide to sell it or continue hodling. Bitcoin investment is just a mathematical calculation. You buy $3,000 worth of bitcoin when the price is $20k and when the price hit $100+k even within a year, if you want to sell it, sell it and when the price reduced you buy again and that is how investment work but those who are here preaching the gospel of long term to the innocent investors which they themselves are not even investors. In as much as you are right. You cannot force what you are doing to others. The choice is in each everyone of us hands to make. If they think playing around Bitcoin for short time is investment then let them be. There is a saying "You can force a horse to the stream but you cant force the horse to drink water". The main difference between an investor and a trader is their goal. A trader buys and sells based on profit and an investor buys and sells to achieve their goal. Even though the number of buys and sells of traders is almost equal, the number of sells is very less compared to the purchases of an investor, because investors prefer to buy more than sell. The most reliable digital currency for investment is Bitcoin. When someone uses the word crypto to refer to Bitcoin, it is a bit confusing. Because, crypto refers to cryptocurrencies, not Bitcoin.

The thing is that @Onyeze fails to understand that once you buy Bitcoin for short-term purposes then such act should be attributed to traders exhibition, first and foremost who do we called a real investor in Bitcoin? I think it is an investor that abide by the concept of Bitcoin investment which is buying with whichever means that gives them peace without stress and hodl for a long-term which is from 4- years upward, no one is an investor because they bought Bitcoin, atleast there are do or don'ts in Bitcoin investment despite that people are left with their decison to make but be it as it may the right approach has to be followed in other to be called a real investor, no one should be expecting to called an investor when their purpose is to gamble in and out at a short interval, such investors can be called short timers, premature investors or quick money chasers.

The concept is not like that buddy because even though we do it with DCA, it doesn't mean we don't think about risk because in the end, regardless of the method, risk still exists, especially when talking about where we invest. Bitcoin is one of the risky aspects of investment and we must be prepared for all possibilities including loss if we really want to be here.

So whatever we take in terms of strategy in accumulating bitcoin whether it's DCA or buy on the dip or even lump sum everything has a risk in the end.

Actually when talking about buying in bitcoin regardless of the form it is good enough because when indeed someone is not suitable for DCA then there is no need to force it to be done in DCA because the buying strategy in bitcoin is diverse and DCA is only one of the strategies that we can use but that does not mean we have to force to do DCA if it is not too suitable for the concept we have.

To some extend I will agree with Futurexxx, aside the crypto mentioned I still consider holding other alt coins as trade because they only follow the market price not the potential so for clarity purpose bitcoin is the main discussion. Holding bitcoin for short term plans is not an investment rather a means to chase after profit nothing much, also it’s not good for an investor to mess up their investment because of profit making meanwhile trade is risky. It’s always a mistake to determine how long an investor should hold before calling it a long term investment and some might follow bitcoin cycle yet it’s still not a good choice like 2-4 probably there’s still more when it comes to long term plan.

I want you to understand that anyone who is a trader is not an investor because he or she has no intention of holding his or her bitcoin for the minimum of 4 years; he or she is only interested in short-term profit, and he or she will sell his or her bitcoin once there is a little profit. I don't want to meddle so much in discussing shitcoins here because that is not what we are supposed to be discussing as such discussion will only serve as distraction to the issue of Bitcoin investing. But to add a little clarification, buying shitcoin is not only risky but also funny and come to add investment and shitcoin in the same sentence is even funnier than anything. When discussing trading or investment, simply remove shitcoins from it because whatever you do with them is simply gambling and nothing less. Reason being that you can lose all your money when you touch shitcoins. You have some kind of understanding in the difference between a trader and an investor, there is no doubt about that but I will simply want to add a little to what you already said because when it comes to bitcoin, there is a clear distinction between a trader and an investor. A trader, like you said, buys and sell within a short time whereas as investor holds for a long time. The key point is that one is constantly exposing his money to risk because when the trade is placed, a stop loss is set as well as a take profit. When the trade hits the stop loss, the trader is losing money, unfortunately, this happens more than the take profits which makes trading a very risky thing to do. On the other hand, the investor have his money stored and kept somewhere and with time the money will keep growing, he is not taking any risk neither is he wasting time with complex analysis. The beauty of investing is just enormous and can never be compared to trading that constantly raises the blood pressure of the trader.

if you have your personal suggestion you can educate us more and forgets about criticism, most of you doesn't know the similarity between trading and investment, someone who trade is  like someone sells constantly to make a little profit, why someone who is investor is looking at target because its target the person need most, that is why you that risk takers always make more money why the poor is not ready to risk, investors have target of what they will profit for their investment.

Onyeeze..... i see that you are still bent on an unnecessary argument and or fight between guys here who have more clearer picture of what trading vs investing is, but i will tell you that picking up a fight will not solve any problem but rather keeps you stagnant. it could be that your way of understating of this matter is quite different others, but in this thread there is a way we classify such issues. you can go to the trading board and make proclamation that both trading and investing are the same thing, but can not be accepted here. though you could have some point in your explanation but the way you address your issue makes it look somewhat dilutional, augmentative and problematic. like JJG earlier said to a user that......

Not only in terms of return, but if we want to invest based on reliability, Bitcoin will be at the top of all. Shit coins are like a kind of gamble where you can get a few times more but it will lose that price again in a short time. The situation of Bitcoin is definitely not like that. Even if there is some price correction in Bitcoin, it can recover again. When someone invests in shit coins, he has to invest blindly. Because he does not know in which coin he can get profit. But only Bitcoin can have such confidence that it will definitely increase but it may take some time. That is why we think it is safe to keep all eggs in one basket in the case of Bitcoin.

Bitcoin investment is top of all in terms of reliability and Bitcoin investment is the safest invest even this investment involves low risk. I sometimes wonder why people who have experience with Bitcoin i.e. Bitcoin investing consider investing in Shit coin. No one has ever been successful investing in shitcoins, so those who want to invest in these coins like fools should understand how safe bitcoin investment is and how much success can be gained from this investment. Those who invest in Shit coin should be shown how successful El Salvador and MicroStrategy have been with their Bitcoin investment or how much profit they have made with their BTC reserves.

I would not proclaim that trading and/or shitcoining would need to 100% be absent from investing in bitcoin, yet frequently I advocate that folks try to keep their shitcoining and trading to less than 10% the size of their bitcoin investment, whether we are referring to time, energies and/or value, so sure there could be ways to still call yourself an investor but to include some trading activities within your activities, and there are even some traders (perhaps rare) who approach their trading in a way that they are trading/investing at the same time, yet surely, an overwhelming majority of traders are neither successful in their fucking around with trading and/or they do not come up with systems that are sustainably able to both support themselves and to build their investment stash (whether BTC or otherwise) at the same time.  So, it can come off as quite confusing when some traders are trying to pump their trading nonsense and to suggest that trading is a suitable way to approach bitcoin, whether they consider their target audience to be a bitcoin newbie or some more experienced bitcoiner.

Your approach is indeed pragmatic, you’re very right with your suggestion that trading (if it must be done) should be a small part of an investor’s overall strategy rather than making it his primary objective or focus. And yeah it’s a pretty good suggestion to reduce and keep trading activities to at least 10% of one’s portfolio or even less, this is to ensure that the risks associated are minimized while also maximizing the potentials for long term growth/gain.

Unlike HODLing, trading carried several risks, and it’s absolutely unpredictable, regardless of how much experience you r got in trading,  plus we are humans and it’s very easy for emotions such as fear, anxiety and greed to set in and possibly cloud one’s judgement thereby resulting to impulsive decision making which of course could potentially result to financial losses.

It’s true that many people who approach the market finds it difficult to distinguish between  trading and investing in Bitcoin. Unlike trading, investing requires a more longer term strategy and perspective, where investors overlooks the short term fluctuations of the market and focuses more on the long term value and potential of the asset, trusting on the Bitcoin’s underlying value and potential.
While trading on the other hand requires a more sophisticated and complex approach whereby the trader needs to constantly evaluate the market to know the right time to buy and sell in order to maximize returns and profits in the short term.

Lots of traders in the crypto market tend to aggressively promote their strategies and how much profits one can make by adopting their strategies and making unrealistic promises of consistent returns in trading, and newbies who have little or no experience about the market but/and desire to make quick profits tend to fall for these traps. This, it’s essential to be very careful of such traders and to need to try as much as they can to educate themselves, very importantly, set realistic goals and also develop their own personal strategy that suited perfectly well with the goals that’s been set already.
