Investing in meme coins isn't for everyone So, mixers allegedly launder billions of dollars during the years they're active. Meanwhile, meme coins have a daily trading volume of several billions of dollars! The amount of money going in and out in a day is more than a large mixer can anonymize in years. Somehow this doesn't feel right to me.Lies and hypocrisy = politics. What is true for ordinary mortals will never be true for the 1-2% who pull all the strings for the world. The share of world crime when it comes to cryptocurrencies and mixers is miserable compared to what happens through the use of fiat currencies. Just look at the scandals of banks like HSBC, which had the practice of having narco-bosses bring them trucks full of money with a piece of paper with the account number on it, and they accepted it, and then they were saved from being banned from working in the US by the very top of UK politics, led by the Prime Minister. What to say about the case of Danske Bank, which is considered one of the biggest scandals in the EU with a figure of incredible €800 billion that was laundered through one of their branches in Estonia? If these bastards spent just 10% of the effort they put into fighting alleged crypto crime, the world would be a better place - but make no mistake, crime survives and flourishes precisely because high politics enables it to.

I and the privacy-minded bitcoin community will in fact wait and see how the issue develops - it would be great if mixers could eventually be brought back. But we never know when that time will come - whether the issue will actually be realized or whether it will just be outdated.
To be Honest, I believe the future of True mixers are bleak even if miraculously Trump chooses to give a thumbs up. Government and citizens having privacy and anonymity doesn't mix. Not even in politics, we have seen historically that anything a man can't control they tend to brand it bad Maybe they might finally try using mixer to launder money themselves but that won't happen Because laundering funds through the traditional route is safer.

I haven't followed much of the Trump Coin, but from what I've seen, a pump&dump at that level is .... unprecedented!
Just follow his twitter account, he is making regular promotional posts for his pump&dump shitcoins, now he is asking people to buy this crap to have dinner with him Nobody should trust anything coming from him clown. So, mixers allegedly launder billions of dollars during the years they're active. Meanwhile, meme coins have a daily trading volume of several billions of dollars! I wouldn't be surprised if they ban meme coins in future, after they earn and launder enough money. Can't wait to see the first memecoin mixer! (A service that gives you clean BTC by trading memecoins).
It's not that hard if meme coins are on ethereum chain, we already have tokens mixed before. Even alternative chains are working similar to ethereum and they can be forked.

I am not familiar with any of the cases however I am sure you are correct when you cite crypto laundering via mixers as being insignificant when comparing fiat laundering in the banking system. If these bastards spent just 10% of the effort they put into fighting alleged crypto crime, the world would be a better place - but make no mistake, crime survives and flourishes precisely because high politics enables it to. I cannot argue with that point.

The disappointment in the tokens of the Trump family is equal to the disappointment of Trump's followers, because they expected much more from him, right from the first day. The only thing I welcome about Trump is this easing of measures towards mixers and their developers. Again, it is questionable how much influence he had on these changes. I and the privacy-minded bitcoin community will in fact wait and see how the issue develops - it would be great if mixers could eventually be brought back. But we never know when that time will come - whether the issue will actually be realized or whether it will just be outdated. Yeah, nothing is possible, but this looks almost impossible because mixers and the government will not change their purpose and goals. If this is the case and the forum remains firm with its reason for the ban, it will always subsist. To be Honest, I believe the future of True mixers are bleak even if miraculously Trump chooses to give a thumbs up.
What do you classify as a true mixer? If it's mixers of integrity you are referring to. Is it even possible for mixers to make it in the world of crypto without shady deals?

Mixing funds through the traditional route is safer? Not really and is the reason theymos is likely against even a remote connection with them. Traditional money laundering sources like casinos and eventually banks, all have a paper trail with named individuals tied to accounts. Such data is often handed over by these companies and can be analysed by regulators. If suspicious activity is found they know who is connected to the accounts. Even cash businesses that are pumped will have ball park expected revenue and if it's reporting much higher amounts an investigation will identify a problem. Crypto mixers are actually much more effective if they are able to properly hide inputs versus outputs. Which is why they are a prime target for financial regulators and the owners have repeatedly been targeted for criminal prosecution

well I never said mixing funds through traditional route but laundering funds through traditional route. I meant is safer in the sense that paper money is harder to track Unlike digital that usually leaves some footprints of properly scrutinized.

I meant is safer in the sense that paper money is harder to track Unlike digital that usually leaves some footprints of properly scrutinized. Mixing and laundering funds "the traditional route" is the same thing. People who have paper cash want to clean it and make it useful by hiding the source, their ultimate goal is getting it into a bank account which is digital. Swapping a paper note for another paper note doesn't achieve much, it is not what 99% of people are looking for when laundering money outside of crypto. These are the semantic arguments that people use to defend mixers, going around in circles, but it's obvious to anyone what the majority of people are using them to do - usually hiding stolen funds.

I was thinking of opening a thread about asking whether it's okay to run a contest where bitcointalk users guess the date when mixers will be allowed again here on Bitcointalk. The prize would come from my own money or pool. Whoever guesses the closest or exact date of the return of mixers on Bitcointalk would win. I’m just posting it here for now since this is related to mixer and already being discussed.
Just in case a mixer sponsors this kind of contest, we obviously won’t mention their site and we know mixers are still not allowed at the moment.
My main question is: Is it allowed to run a contest or prediction here on Bitcointalk about when mixers will be allowed again? (The contest will not mention any website of mixer)

A policy prediction market, I like it! That's fine. Note however that I may soften the ban over time, in two or more phases. For example, I may remove the wordfilter much sooner than any other aspects of the ban.

Wow.. this is actually a good news to come across this first day of the month of May 2025, as I'm pretty sure this is actually a sign May 2025 might be a good month for both the forum and Bitcoin at large, as we just saw Bitcoin crossed $97k/BTC benchmark this new month May since February 21st, and yet still showing a potential increase in value, and likewise this another good news of our anticipated Mixer unban that have just been confirmed to take effect soon. I'm very much happy to hear this good news, as this is likely to make the forum more likely again, in terms of its numerous campaigns and contest activities that is likely to get a large number of users engage. Kudos

Investing in meme coins isn't for everyone So, mixers allegedly launder billions of dollars during the years they're active. Meanwhile, meme coins have a daily trading volume of several billions of dollars! The amount of money going in and out in a day is more than a large mixer can anonymize in years. Somehow this doesn't feel right to me. We live in democracy (briefly) and government is chosen by the majority of people. In order to keep the votes of the majority of people, you have to do things that will be liked by the majority, keep in mind that it should be easy to explain and also keep in mind that your average Joe is not smart! So it's no coincidence that they target mixers and not meme coins (also keep in mind that Politicians aren't that smart, no politician has invented electricity, cancer drugs, computer or anything like that, these are the result of smart people, not the result of politicians, so they are also dumb too, that's why the majority of people choose them). We know that meme coins are mostly a heaven for money launderers, they know it too but which one is easier to explain to the society, a meme coin or a mixer? Mixer tells them to stay anonymous and hide activity, which is a very clear message and such a clear message can't be tolerated by the government. On the other hand, meme coins do not promote that, so, there is not much to complain for the government (till they need). Also, we shouldn't forget that criminals often work with the government and there might be some ally criminals laundering money through meme coins, so they need people to invest into such things to receive a clean money. I don't want to make my post sound like a conspiracy but nothing shocks me these days. I am 100% confident and clearly see that most of the crime, especially massive crimes, happen with the help of government. Why do they allow violent migrants who murder and rape EU population to live here for free on the expanse of honest taxpayers? Oh, government doesn't have any idea about that? They do it intentionally. Note however that I may soften the ban over time, in two or more phases. For example, I may remove the wordfilter much sooner than any other aspects of the ban.
It will be very good if you soften, just be very careful! You probably don't need this advice from me but I'm just saying.

I kind of agree with you, however, there is no point in having democracy if people continue to be idiots and always vote for the same people who will screw you over later, only worrying about creating/raising taxes, regulations that will bring more costs than benefits and laws that screw you over. It is necessary to raise awareness among the population through decentralization (which is one of the properties of Bitcoin) and freedom that only the free market can provide. Normies are laymen when it comes to technologies like Bitcoin, economics and political science, which is why we have politicians who are still stuck in the 50s and want to ban things like Bitcoin, mixers and anything else that brings more freedom to people, but these same people keep electing these clowns. Don't be fooled into thinking that the government is stupid. If they were so stupid, they wouldn't stay in power, nor would they be re-elected or convince the population so easily. However, technology like Bitcoin is slowly changing this and making the need for the status quo obsolete (and that's why they feel threatened). We no longer need to depend on a monopolized currency that is issued and controlled by the government. Bitcoin fixes this, as well as innovations and facilitators that free trade can provide.

Not sure yet, any mixer would be sponsors of for any contest if won't mention their website? the final decision have been made and mixer not allow any more for bitcointalk forum promotion. Indeed as contest or not the suspended of mixer website have been final and likely can't be change. I know, mixer would spend much budget for advertising at any forum and have a lot of fund for contest promotion, however bitcointalk forum have been suspended awhile for mixer and not space left for second chance or seeing back mixer advertising in bitcointalk forum. Just my opinion and let me share if any ideas from the other.

Oh yeah, decentralisation is good, but do you trust your next neighbour with it? Not to mention those you don't know? I wonder why people think of decentralisation (total freedom), but turn a blind eye to its consequences. Perhaps you need to view it cleverly and unbiasedly before you understand that too much freedom is a curse. The heart of an average man is selfish and wickedly wicked.

Well, if that contest gives some guess timeline on when they'll be allowed to advertise again, they might capitalize on that, and soon, whoever creates that contest will expose who sponsored them. It's still a win for that website and they'll be known for that especially if the prize is quite high. however bitcointalk forum have been suspended awhile for mixer and not space left for second chance or seeing back mixer advertising in bitcointalk forum.
Just my opinion and let me share if any ideas from the other.
You have to read the posts above us like what theymos said, it's opening the idea that he may allow it again but there might be phases before it's wholly allowed and that's why many are hopeful with that.

It's possible a mixer could develop an interest to sponsor it only if they are convinced that they will be returning any soon. There won't be problems if the brand sponsoring the contest is not mentioned because they know that later on, when mixers must have been reinstated, their names would definitely be mentioned.
