Are you selling altcoins next pump?

Back in November / December my altcoin portfolio went from Break even to +220% in just 5 weeks and I am waiting for that to happen again before I sell any more.

I took some profits back then but not much as I felt it was too early in the bull run, I believe we have till the end of 2025 at least so didn’t want to cash out my of my portfolio at the end of 2024 due to the feeling we could go a lot higher this year.

We then had Trump come out and crash the markets due to the tariffs and my portfolio went from the +220% high point in December back down to break even again early April and is now currently +40%.

It has been a long 5/6 months since that last good pump for altcoins and I am thinking that if we have another similar pump like that soon then I will take a lot more profit off the table as we are half way through the year now and I want to secure some profits incase we do not have a good Q4 like many of us are expecting.

For those who are also heavy in altcoins, what is your plan if we have another decent pump soon?

Altcoins are never coins to hold for a long time. So when a good pump is seen, I sell my altcoins. I never hope for a market pump. In the case of altcoins, I sell the altcoins that I have as soon as I get some profit. So I will never hold my altcoins in the next market pump. Those who hold their altcoins during a market pump always show themselves as fools. Because you should not hold any other coin except Bitcoin if you get a good profit. I always consider altcoins as an on-time investment. And I wait for the moment when I can get 20% or more profit from there.

It's not all the altcoins that pumped last year that is going to pump again if the overall market is pumping, altcoins presents a pump opportunity just ones or twice and if you are unable to catch up with those pump and sell your tokens, you wait a longer time or you lose for ever. Most altcoins is not meant to be trading below $10 again because they have passed through so many bull season but yet didn't pump again.

The more that you hold altcoins, the more they depreciate in value. You should have sold when you saw that huge profits in December, because there is no guarantee that your portfolio will be in such profits again. It is only bitcoin that is a long-term investment because the price increases overtime. Altcoins is the opposite of bitcoin with little trust on the projects because majority of them in the past rug pulled their investors.

Lately (few months) I haven't been too into altcoins, that's because I've pretty much 100% of my portfolio invested in Bitcoin (BTC). But if we were to have a decent pump in altcoins, I think I'd sell right away. Reading your story, it seems you still lack understanding on how money management works, if I were you & got a high percentage, I think I would sell it (at least get my initial money back).

Actually i had read up this thread or you had made out some another post like this on which you do have some worry about into your altcoins holdings on which you've been trying out to compare those gains on last year than on what we do have now. The market do make out some pump on last year and now altcoins arent that pumping that much as of this moment. Im not that wary about into the list of coins/tokens you do have into your stash but to assume out that you are that having those mem coins into your bag then its not something ideal that would be hold off for long term. If we've been talking about those top altcoins that we do have in the market then there's that potential that it would be having that recovery once the market do make out some bullish pump. Now we are currently on bullish sentiment on which we know that Bitcoin do make out some new all time highs. Altcoins might not that moving up that much but we are that heading there on which we know that we do have that so called altcoin season on which this could that definitely happen. Selling out altcoins into the next pump? It would be that depending on you because we do have different decisions in regarding into our bags whether we would be that holding or would be selling out at the moment that we do see profits. There are those times or moments that you do have those kind of regrets on missing out on selling when you do have the opportunity but since we do know that the market is unpredictable and having the potential on having such pump or increase, then this what makes us making up the decision to hold and this is part of risks management because each person will be that different when it comes to decisions to be made on.

That’s not always true. I bought and held XRP at $0.50 for almost a year and it shot up over 500% in just few months end of last year and I expect it to shoot up another 100% at least this year from current price.

Lately (few months) I haven't been too into altcoins, that's because I've pretty much 100% of my portfolio invested in Bitcoin (BTC). But if we were to have a decent pump in altcoins, I think I'd sell right away. Everyone has different risk levels. An altcoin of mine did a 40x early 2024 in just 3 months. I sold at 10x and 25x but sounds like those who take less risk like you would have sold completely around 3or4x missing out on so much more profit.

There is a way altcoins pump that almost investors will be tempted to sell off their entire coin holdings, most especially those investors that holds high potential coins, because at that point they already accumulated a lot of profits from their altcoins holdings, since altcoins pump is far above what we can imagine sometimes and only the amount in your portfolio determining how much profits you accumulate at that point this is most reason why most speculators jump on altcoins due to it unimaginable increase when the market pump.

I don't like altcoins but a few days ago I invested in altcoins with some dollars and was at 40% profit and I expect more profit but currently at -70% loss. So there is no guarantee that you can make a profit if Altcoin holds for a long time, it is wise to sell it at a small profit if you invest in Altcoin. If I were you I would have sold it at 220% profit. However, since altcoin is very risky, if you wait for the next pump, the price may not go up as you expected, so don't be too greedy, if you are too greedy, you will lose.

I've routinely trimmed my altcoin holdings and offloading it but I'm also waiting for the right time for my big chunk of altcoin holdings waiting for BTC dominance to go down.

As of now there's no obvious sign but in the future, maybe.
Currently i'm more focused on ETH and BTC though, that's where the money is and where the price action is quite active.

No I am not selling any coins not even Bitcoin for next pump. I am a long term hodler and do not want to make some fast profit.
For me to make some fast profit is not how I want to invest my fiat in crypto. We can make alot of fast money if we are a trader.
But it is not how I want to make gains in crypto. I do think there is alot of investors that dont want to hodl their alt coins for along time. But it is not what I will do.

Not all altcoins will be around in 3-5 years.

I will hold top altcoins like XRP maybe that long, but others I will sell this year and then just focus on Bitcoin for a few years.

Yes, absolutely. I have been offloading most coins especially trendy new ones. Bitcoin is the only thing that matters.

For me to make some fast profit is not how I want to invest my fiat in crypto. We can make alot of fast money if we are a trader.
But it is not how I want to make gains in crypto. I do think there is alot of investors that dont want to hodl their alt coins for along time. But it is not what I will do.

All this will accomplish is to turn you from a long-term holder into a long-term loser. Except the top performing coins and some lucky cases here and there, most altcoins die and never recover their previous prices. Holding works for Bitcoin, it does not work for altcoins.

That’s the mistake some people do make when they invest in altcoins, some people are always having the opportunity to sell their coin at high price, but they will always keep on waiting hoping for the price to increase and it might end up dumping, and some might not really rise again. Why didn’t you sell your coin when it increased by 220%? You were waiting for the price to keep on increasing? And how sure are you that the price is going to increase back?

Its a choice, some people might decide to sell all their investment when their is another pump, some people might might sell some of their coin, and some will keep on holding, some people holding altcoins are not really ready to sell now, either their is a pump or a dump.

I don't have large bag holdings of altcoins but then if I see a significant profits from my portfolio that significantly suggests a high pump percentage, I will definitely take profits and exit the market, the only assets I can confidently hold for a long term regardless of whatever pump stage we see is Bitcoin, Aside from Bitcoin, no other coin have the ability to capture my mind to that level.

Sell.
Except the ETH that I hold, I'm waiting for the better price that it will reach for this pump that might come soon. Although I also have some plans already for that and I'll keep mostly in USDT after all of the sale that I'll do. After the pump, I will wait for the another opportunity for me to buy them all at a cheaper rate. Not all means that these alts again but those that I am eyeing to have more, buying back some ETH and will put back mostly to BTC.

altcoins are a lot unpredictable and volatile than bitcoin let us be honest while bitcoin can crash and pump and crash and pump over and over again most altcoins can't usually when they crash it is the end of them and they never go back to their ath

so when you see the altcoins that you have been holding finally pump i would not think twice about it and just sell them i would not want to take the risk of losing the chance of selling at its ath

I have sold all of alts i have back in January, and never expect the same patter to happen in short time. We got big pump at march 2024, then side ways until Trump's event at september that brings alts back to the another high.

Don't be greedy bro. Market is always moving up and down, but will be worsen when it's moving down deeper than moving up just like alts pattern now.
