Arguments are biased, and shallow. They don't realise that blockchain like NEM, has a database too. So why are we using database as part of the solution and call it a blockchain? Blockchain is designed with the ultimate objective of making data irreversible, immutable, and highly available in a distributed or decentralised environment. It makes use of a peer to peer network, a database, and cryptography to achieve this objective. The end result is a system that is very much cheaper to run while providing a tamper evident solution that has its place in both the private and public domain. Having said that, it does not stop a company like Oracle and MS to work on something that is "out of the box" solution to build the same. But first, they will have to find a good business case to do so.

I believe the most important thing is reaching the consensus. If you have servers in multiple locations, reaching the CONSENSUS about ORDER of transactions is not a trivial task, and it's not something that db will solve for you.

Just a heads up whoever is running http://nodeexplorer.com/ that it is showing 0 active nodes for whatever reason. I also get ERROR 306 NIS: UNEXPECTED ERROR when logging into my wallet, although it seems to be working OK.

I can't provide an answer as to the why, but I can comment on potential solutions. Speaking from personal experience, I usually make this particular problem go away by deleting the ncc.cfg & accounts_cache_mainnet files from the ncc folder. The one time it didn't work I had to also delete the db. thanks smaragda, that worked for me. i had tried simply deleting just ncc.cfg (after reading that on nem forum) which hadn't worked for me, then editing said file to get to the cause, but deleting both these files from user/nem finally did the job, cheers.

IMPORTANT NOTICE
As mentioned, lightwallet does all the signing inside the browser, however you should only use lightwallet on node YOU OWN, or node YOU TRUST. The reason is one could create EVIL lightwallet, that would steal your keys, or serve totally FAKE lightwallet
We WILL provide a way to start lightwallet locally and connect to a selected node (similar like in ncc)
(If you trust us, you're free to check it on yakuza and alices nodes, those are nodes we control - san, go, hachi, jusan, nijuichi, alice2-alice7 .nem.ninja)
