In a latest development regarding the return leg the super eagles of Nigeria will be playing against libia, report from puch has it that due to the ill treatment vented on the super eagles by the Libya embassy, the NFF has ordered for the withdrawal of the super eagles squard from Libya due to there safety.

It's almost similar incidence that happened when the bafana bafana of South Africa felt thier players were treated badly in Nigeria and planned doing same to Nigeria when they visit for thier return leg.

It's a very bad thing to see that out mentality is this backwards and we're still engaging in this kind of thing as a continent.

Maybe they are doing this as a revenge for what they experienced when they visited Nigeria last week, although it was not the fault of the NFF because they made proper arrangements for them in Uyo, but they landed in Porthacort which was not as planned, and still the NFF provided some means of security to convey them back to Uyo even though they complained that they are not convenient.

This revenge is not proper on a professional journey of football, I blame CAF for all these because it is not proper, they are suppose to and address this because it is getting out of hand. I wish the Super Eagles of Nigeria can just travel back as quick as possible so that when CAF addresses the whole situation then they can travel back.

The decision by the Nigeria Football Federation to withdraw the Super Eagles of Nigeria from completing their double header game against Libya after the players were trapped in the Airport for more than 14 hours I think is very good one. Despite the report from the Libyan press that their own national team squad suffered the same ill treatment when they visited Nigeria last week, it's obvious that it wasn't as bad what the Super Eagles have suffered in the country's airport in the last 24 hours.
The Super Eagles players are exhausted already which is why I don't think they'll be fit enough to play the game against Libya tomorrow. Now, it's up to CAF to take the decisive steps in addressing the issue

It doesn’t make it right. If they felt they were wronged by the NFF, they could have taken it up with CAF and allow them to handle the situation. It is wrong for Libya to take “revenge” against the Super Eagles for whatever reason. CAF should not let this slide because if they do, it will become a norm in African football. CAF should sanction Libya for acting in this manner. I expected better from our African brothers.

it's so sad that they treated the Libyan team very well as guests but then the SuperEagles were given a poor treatment by the Libyan Football governing bodies, it's so shameful and embarrassing for Professionals and I won't blame them for going to the media to express their anger, that act by the Libyan Football Federation is a deliberate one, it's not a mistake and I think they're really punishing the Super Eagles on purpose for defeating them at home, this is something the CAF is supposed to be looking into immediately cause everyone is watching to see their reactions to this unprofessional and unfair act. The Nigerian players are not in a safe hands and it would be in their best interests to avoid the match cause if they could pull up such stunt you could imagine what they'll do when Nigeria thrash them at their home, left for me I think the Libyan Football Federation should be sanctioned and the match cancelled till the issue gets resolved, I pray God be with the Super Eagles.

Libya team was actually funny with that strategy they started earlier because i was even smiling because I no that they would certainly get tired of that strategy, how would they even think that they will develop a strategy that would make the super eagles to get tired of trying to break out a way to score, though there coach looks very experienced to have come up with such pattern because if it was some coaches they would have been thinking that rushing the super eagles would have been the best but with his level of experience he knew that such method will results to people making a mockery of them because of the goals they would conceive.

There is no right or wrong way of playing football. We may not like the way Libya played but that’s because we are on the opposing team. If you were Team Libya, you would be very much happy with parking the bus. When Mikel Arteta parked the bus against stronger opponents like Manchester City in the premier league, Arsenal fans praised his brilliance though he was accused by other teams of using dark arts but his tactic worked or almost worked. Libya could have survived the game if not for the goal from Dele Bashiru.

There Is truth in what you are saying because is normal for people to praise the club they like even if they are not playing well and that's what the fans normally do, though my reason of sounding in favour of the super eagles is not even because is my country but because they played well, you have also seen how we normally talk down on them whenever they are playing in a way they are not supposed to, so actually if they had draw the match we would have certainly blame them but on this case anybody that watched the match will attest that super eagles showed the Libya team some good move and not really because they are very terrible in the field but because they are of a different class with the super eagles in the field.

Yes, they take it as punishment because even the miscommunication that happen between them and NFF as they landed in Porthacort, it was their mistake because they changed the scheduled location without informing the NFF until they landed; they started to complain that they left them at the airport for five hours.

The Libyan football body is now taking this as revenge despite all the improper decision against the Super Eagles of Nigeria in that match day because they favored them and they played very rude, they don't even look like professionals in terms of football; maybe that's why they are not going far in any competition.

They will still lose this second leg despite all these because our players will have to teach them their mistakes. We have world class players that are not expected to be treated that way, and I think CAN will need to intervene in this case.

Not supporting the unprofessional treatment of the super eagles by the Libyan government, but it's surely a payback for what their players went through in Nigeria in the first leg. Yes, there were miscommunications and they landed in the wrong state, but what the NFF did afterwards was also unprofessional, leaving them at the airport for hours stranded outside, and that wasn't the end, the NFF still brought them a bus without AC on a lengthy journey to Akwa ibom If you want others to treat you well in their countries, you must also treat them properly in your own. Respect works both ways.

The Libya Govemment over did the whole thing but I blame the NFF for letting this happen in the first place. It's unacceptable.

The Team has pulled out of the game, the players are not going to play anymore, it left for CAF to take necessary action.

I agree with @Igebotz. True, I'm also not in support of how the Libyan government overdid the whole affair but it looked like a situation of "first to do no dey pain" . Two wrongs has never being known to make a right so if I were the Libyan government, I would have overlooked the whole thing and acted like the better one even though Nigeria were just being petty and they would say it wasn't done deliberately.
I just wonder what will happen to their game which was scheduled for today, though. Will the Libyan government be fined alone for this action or will it be the two countries overlooked since Nigeria was the first to start the issue.

I don't want to compare but am pretty sure this kind of things wont happen in other nations league. This African mentality has to stop soon or else there will be lots of problem and bad habits. The Libyan government would complained to the NFF or directly to CAF about the situation. The both parties were wrong, and the reason for saying so is that. In competitions like this everything should be arranged before time. Its wrong to see that the Libya players suffered the same ill treatment when they came to the Nigeria soil. Meanwhile there are plenty of reservations and places to give them the best treatment.

On the hand, Libya reaction to it was immature and wrong. This is a professional football, we don't get to see revenge and i do you, so you do me kind of things. Discipline and punishment are not meant to come from the victim but from the officials in charge. Funny enough how the last match between these teams was filled with a lot of funny actions. I could remember when the game ended. The Libya players quickly rushed to the referee to ensure that the tie was stopped in the right time. They though he has cheated in the game or quickly end the end before hand.

This is misinformation as the Libya players caused what happened to them in Nigeria and it isn't our fault, the information (of we doing them first) circulating online are false.

There were provision for the Libya players to land directly in Uyo but they decided to land in Port Harcourt airport. The NFF called and asked them to use a flight to Uyo but they refuse because of the cost and decided that they'll use a bus instead.

The NFF also provided a bus (air-conditioned) and with escort but they refuse and decided that they'll sort their way to Uyo themselves. Libya are at fault in both situations and no time was Nigerian at fault.

We waited for them at Uyo with reception and everything and the delay at Port Harcourt airport was because there was no provision to welcome them over there.

Libya has no respect for sportsmanship and thank God our players (Super eagles) have decided not to play the match schedule for tomorrow.

This incident is actually unjust especially when a flight that is about to land is diverted to another airport within a short notice without considering the passengers and if the plane has enough fuel to get to the new destination which is very dangerous and unprofessional.

The Super Eagles pulling out of the game is not a bad idea because they have been denied access to food, drinks, good sleep and comfort. These are things an athlete would need to perform well in a activity.

The Libyan authorities should tender an apology and give reasons why such happened.

There's a report that's currently trending on X that Super Eagles of Nigeria is stranded in Libya airport. The major concern now is that the players will still have to travel for another 2 hours before getting to their destination. I think the reason behind this latest development is related to the crises in the country. Since peace haven't been fully restored to the country, why then did CAF allow them to play their home matches in their country? At the moment, I don't know if the players safety is assured but I expect the right authorities to take actions immediately.

I don't think is about the crisis happening in their country, this more like a reprisal attempt to Nigeria after they had a six hours delay when they landed in port Harcourt international airport instead of Uyo where the venue of the match is supposed to take place, that delay caused a little fiasco as the Libyan team started taking pictures of their delay in port Harcourt airport and putting it on social media, complaining about what the NFF is doing to them, I believe this was what has caused the Libyan side to think that action by NFF was deliberately done to affect their teams performance hence this reprisal action taken by the Libyan side against their visitors.

I have read multiple news reports from both sides, and it feels like reading two different stories where each side is defending its own country and national team, Libya are saying it’s Nigeria’s fault and also Nigeria saying it’s Libya’s mistake. In situations like these I find it's hard to judge who is truly right or wrong. What I find more troubling is that we seem to repeatedly seeing this kind of tension mostly between African teams, whether at the national level or smaller clubs. I really find a part of these conflicts often seems to be political, which then gets develop over into sports and fans between two countries.

It’s a shame to see sports, which should create unite betwen people being turned into a way for political affairs. In this specific case Nigeria already defended their actions and Libya clearly in that poor communication between them led to this thing. However, Libya shouldn’t create the same scenario if they are really wanting to represent their team with all good sport rules.

Yes, they take it as punishment because even the miscommunication that happen between them and NFF as they landed in Porthacort, it was their mistake because they changed the scheduled location without informing the NFF until they landed; they started to complain that they left them at the airport for five hours.

The Lybia Govemment over did the whole thing but I blame the NFF for letting this happen in the first place. It's unacceptable.

Quote
They will still lose this second leg despite all these because our players will have to teach them their mistakes. We have world class players that are not expected to be treated that way, and I think CAN will need to intervene in this case.

The Team has pulled out of the game, the players are not going to play anymore, it left for CAF to take necessary action.
Africans hate their fellow Africans. No spirit of sportsmanship in them. For every little misunderstanding between them, they take it to heart to retaliate with such much hate therein within them. That's why progress and unity don't easily come among them. You can imagine the little misunderstanding that triggered Libya to treat Nigeria this way. By the way, what will the Nigerian government do? It's better that the matter is handed over to CAF, let them settle the dispute, and charge both parties for the acts of misconduct and lack of professionalism

I totally support the super eagles decision to pull out of that match, that will show the Libyan authority they have class and dignity. For whatever reasons that they might have for treating their visitors very poorly is a big shame on their reputation as a country. I believe that they owe the super eagles and the entire Nigerians an apology for the neglect and unprofessional attitude towards the galant men that wanted to represent their country. Perhaps the Libyan team were intimidated to face the Nigerian team in order not to probably lose in front of their home fans. So they wanted to demoralize our players so that they will not be emotionally ready for the match, the super eagles made the right call to boycott that match.

Well, in as much as i feel angry about all the shenanigans being done to frustrate the Super Eagles it is also important to know that CAF which is the football Governing body in Africa cannot be exonerated from this show of shame that is happening in Libya. CAF has to take full responsibility as the Governing body of football in this continent and also participate fully in ensuring that there are guidelines for such issues concerning team logistics and players welfare so that such scenarios will never occur in the future because it is very shameful and if nothing is done about it then we might see worse than this in future, which is very bad for the development of African football.

North Africans see themselves as more Arabs than Africans. We all saw what played out when Morocco qualified for the semifinals in the last World Cup in Qatar. Sofiane Boufal one of Atlas Loins player dedicated their success to Moroccans, Arab and Muslim people. He failed to recognize the African solidarity and support they got from the continent.

https://dailypost.ng/2024/10/14/afcon-2025-qualifier-caf-forcing-super-eagles-to-play-against-libya-sports-minister/

The Nigerian minister of sports said that he spoke with CAF president Patrice Motsepe and Secretary-General Mosengo Omba, and they insisted that the Super Eagles will have to play the match. If Nigeria is boycotting the match without the permission of the CAF, they might end up losing three points.

We are expecting to get CAF's position on this matter. And if the organization is fair, a rematch should be the least the Super Eagles should receive because, ideally, they deserve to get the three points.

There's nothing to revenge actually. What happened to the Libyan national team was no fault of the NFF. A mistake was made and they did everything they could to rectify it. They landed in another city and refused to board a flight to the City they were supposed to originally land. Instead they opted to take a bus. The NFF provided security for the and comfortable accommodation.
So even if this was a revenge, it makes it looks even more silly because what happened was a mistake on their part, so why should someone else pay for it. Keeping the players in the airport for such amount of time is just wrong and they should be punished.

This is a matter that CAF needs to look into and make sure it never happens again because other teams will want to use this antics to win games. It's a good thing the match didn't hold. These kind of things are very bad for the sports. It's too unprofessional. If you want to win a game , win it on the field.

A hatch responds is not always the solution. What has happened is already speculating around social media with two-sided stories, which make no sense and are very difficult for us to just stay behind and run our own speculation on who to support and who not to support which the decision could be biased base on our country of nationality.

The Super Eagles are trying to protect their pride by not wanting to play the match again, but I don't think that's the best thing to do because if the match is being postponed, that will be another stress for them to come back there.

All I hope to see is a peaceful reconciliation, as we hope to hear from the CAF's probably a fair way to resolve the dispute and both teams can settle their scores on the field.

It's true that we've been hearing two sided stories so far about our stranded super eagles in a Libyan airport. Some says it's a revenge for treating their national team unfairly when they where in Uyo, to play with the super eagles, others says their being stranded has nothing to do with  revenge. Anyway from a news that I read this afternoon it talked about the response of the Libyan sports federation. They said thay regret any inconveniences caused, that incidents like this occurs due to air traffic controls protocols. They also said despite the difficulties that their team encountered when they came to Nigeria, that they didn't make any public accusations. https://phoenix-browser.com/GRUn3LE2HxW

Whether what the Libyans are saying is the truth or not, the morale of our players are already very low, so I think that it's better that they boycott the match. If they go ahead to play the match and if they lose, nobody can blame them because they've already declined to play.
