I've received no human response yet from BA to my support ticket requesting a PSU replacement for my failed unit.  It's been about 45 hours now.

Since the unit is offline anyway I thought I'd take it apart and see if I could find another way to get power into it.  No luck on that front yet, but I did find something else.

I saw that there are 10 decent-sized electrolytic caps on the backplane, and I scanned the tops of them out of habit for signs of bulging, and guess what...out of the 10 caps, 5 had bulging tops, 2 of them to the point where the electrolyte was leaking out.  That's after just 13 days of use.

They're labeled as Sanyo brand caps, rated for 16V 1500uf, 105c.

I guess I should think about ordering up some replacements.  I wonder what kind of shape those caps are in in the still-operating miner...

So they lied about part quality and used shit components.  I can't say I'm surprised at this point.  It's also possible this is proof that they were mining with customer equipment because they either have a huge design flaw or that miner has been running for months.  Even cheap capacitors don't start failing after 2 weeks.

Is it possible this is just another Zifkin operation? I mean for all we know this Sovu guy is just a fugitive with his name on a holding company obviously designed for criminal purposes. We have evidence that someone did some press last fall to promote this scheme under the criminal alias "Alex Berk", which frankly is such a ridiculous load of Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego bullshit it's almost comedy. All we're actually hearing from are three fake and/or anonymous entities that we know nothing about. They're EXACTLY following the Zifkin plan leaked by PG to a T.

The only question that's really up in the air at this point is whether Matt Carson and this "Stuart" guy from the UK are in on the con game, or whether they're just useful idiots getting played. The take on this scam is probably good enough that it's worth running their reputations to the ground, not that Matt Carson wasn't already a known scammer to begin with.

Matt could easily be in on it, hand-picked from Sovu, saving the I-had-no-idea trump card for the very end, walking away a bandit for his efforts for garnering the bigger bandit, Sovu, the bigger payday.

Don't forget, there's two other resellers (UK & Aussie), plus that dude down in Florida that owns a scooter shop, and Alex Sovu loves scooters.

Joshua Zipkin has been to BA's facility and is supposedly be in like flint with them. Notice how these scammers stick together.

What dude in Florida Huh I missed that part of the memo..................  Roll Eyes

I've had my X-1 for about 4 Weeks. I have been mining at 1100Hz since then at about 110Gh/s.

Getting any kind of ROI.. I don't think so , so all the income I'm making I'm putting into buying ghash.io and I'm up to about 20Gh/s extra via ghash.io at the moment. Maybe in 3 months time I'll be up to 200Gh/s in Total and I'll sell the X-1 and put it towards more Gh/s

But I'll still be behind for quite a while :-(

Meanwhile, customers who ordered weeks before you directly from BA are still chowing down on the giant bowls of dicks BA has served us.

His only problem with that defense is we all know that he went to the BA factory and saw everything. He would have to prove without a shadow of a doubt that BA did in fact have the manufacturing capabilities they claimed to have. It's not going to hold up for him in the end and once that flaw in his story is exposed then it's all over for Minersource. Matt, you should have stayed at home and got pissed like the rest of us.

I had a phone call from DHL this evening regarding paying my import tax for a delivery, I called to inquire who it was from and it was from BA. I ordered a X1 directly from them back in November, I've had no emails from BA regarding my order at all so this came as a surprise.

I had requested a refund about a month ago but never heard anything back from them apart from their automated response about submitting a ticket. So I'll just sell my X1 on ebay when it turns up just to try and make the money back on it rather than waiting on ROI.

It's alive.  I finally had success hacking my dead X3 PSU so that I could attach an ATX power supply to it, and it's up and mining again, bulging caps and all.

I'm using an older Antec 1200W unit to power it.  At first I saw it drawing 1460W from the wall, and after recovering from my surprise that it kept running, i quickly backed the settings off from 1200MHz to 1000MHz, and it settled around 1180W at the wall.

I had at first attached four 6-pin PCIe sockets each coming off a pair of 12-ga wires, but the connectors got too hot to touch after just a few minutes, so I added two more sockets.  Now they just get warm to the touch.

Yes I know (now) I got the colors/polarity backwards.  After a magic smoke incident I fixed it outside the unit, not wanting to resolder all those wires on the PCB.  I really need to work on being less retarded when it comes to reading pinouts.

Soldering all that was a giant pain in the ass.  I used 3 irons at once, and used a propane torch to help heat them more hotter.

Still no response from BA about a replacement PSU.  I sure hope they don't ask me to send back the dead/hacked one first.

Assuming they don't try and deny warranty from what you just said but glad to see it's running again.

To be decided...

I suppose if they wanted to be jerks they could try to do that.

Really though I didn't hack it at all until after the failure had occurred, and had they given me a timely response/replacement I would not have needed to hack it.

While they're at it they could send me a fixed backplane with good caps, but I doubt that will happen anytime soon given how swamped they appear to be, so I'll again have to take the matter into my own hands.  At least caps are relatively cheap compared to a power supply, though before I can order replacements I will need to determine the lead spacing (5mm vs 7.5mm), which means removing the backplane, which means more downtime...

Looks like the caps are 10mm diameter with a 5mm lead spacing.  Height is around 20mm, but there is plenty of room for taller ones if needed.

I'm getting these for replacements:

People shouldn't have to pay for replacements or have to fix an new product themselves. it should work perfectly from the box.  i'm very concerned i'm still waiting to receive my batch 1 prosperoX-1s ordered in Dec, and the number of posts from people claiming they received broken sub standard units is unsettling.
Its bad enough the delays and being forced to accept an obsolete product, but something that doesn't even work or raises questions if its even safe to plug in and leave running and not going burn the house down or blow a fuse while i sleep...  Sad

We are running 10 Prospero X3 in our data center (20 units of 1Ths) and so far stability is quite bad. We have to reboot some machines every few hours, and one unit is not functionning at all already. Instead of having a theorical 20 THs, we average 16-17 THs / day (we don't have 24/7 presence to reboot machines all the time, nor have auto switching plugs).

So BA is shipping late, sub par hardware that doesn't perform to expectations? Say it isn't so! Roll Eyes
